Hello everyone. I really struggled yesterday with my anxiety to the point where I couldn't stop worrying and crying. I cried nearly all day. Today I am supposed to go into work but I really don't have the energy to go in. Is it bad to take a day off for that reason? Should I feel bad for taking the day off?
Thanks everyone

Good Morning proteus_912
The answer to your question is NO...you should never feel bad for taking a day, two days, three days to do what you need to do for your mental wellbeing. I am so proud you have reached out here to get some comfort at this time and I am so sorry you are struggling and spent the day crying yesterday.
While it is important to have a cry, to let it out and to release those emotions, there is also a time to think "I might need some extra support here". I am wondering if you have some family or friends that you can have a coffee and a chat with at the moment, well if you are in Vic, maybe a facetime and a chat?
There are some wonderful supports available too, like the Beyond Blue support team and you can reach them on 1300 22 4636 who are available 24/7 to chat with. I am also wondering if you have been to see your GP in the past to talk about how you are feeling and maybe to get some extra support with your anxiety?, that might be worth a trip, or at least a call to see if you can get an over the phone consultation.
None the less we are here to sit and to listen and to give you some comfort at this time, so if you feel like sharing some more of what is going on for you, I am here.
Sending you big hugs proteus_912

Thank you for your reply and that has made me feel better about taking the off. I do need extra support. I have my boyfriend and my twin sister and they have been great to me and they help a lot. But they don't have anxiety. So i reached out to these forums to see if other people with anxiety have any ways to help and any ways they deal with similar issues.
Thank you for your response 🙂

Great to hear back from you proteus_912
It is so hard to support someone with anxiety so I understand that you may not feel supported at all by your boyfriend or your twin sister, my mother suffered horrendous anxiety and I tried so hard to help her...but as I could not understand her fears, her feelings, what she was thinking, and of course I tried to present things to her from my logical mind and that as I know now does not work.
Hopefully there will be others that come to support you here too, it is a really great and warm place to be. As you can see from the threads in the anxiety section there are many others that are struggling too so maybe you could have a read of some of those threads too. I can see you have done that with one thread already..go you!
I just want to say to you that if you had a horrible flu and you were bed ridden, with pain, a runny nose and a cough you would absolutely stay in bed and even see a doctor, you would have a few days off work as you are sick, without guilt. Mental health is no different proteus_912. You take the time you need to help you, to do what you need for your wellbeing. Guilt free.
Hugs

Hi,
It is absolutely ok for you to take a day off work, you should not feel bad at all. Your mental health is important!
I recently took a few days off work because I felt like I needed a 'me' days because my anxiety was creeping up.
Youre important too!
