Living with anxiety for years

I've suffered anxiety for 12 years I'm on medication and still suffer panic attacks some days are great but most are hard My partner of 14 years left 2 years ago...honestly don't blame him. I have 4 amazing kids and parents that are a huge help! I wouldn't be able to do this without them. I don't have many friends so social life is none! I'm so scared to drive a car, so makes getting out a hell of a lot harder...all I want to do is to be able to take my kids to school without dragging my mum behind me! I just can't seem to see that light at the end of the tunnel, one thing I don't understand is that I've had these issues for so long that I thought I'd just be used to the panic. I've pretty much been through it all even tried hypnotherapy! Feel so stuck!

I experienced Agoraphobia for many years and had panic attacks which left me unable to stand up. It was a nightmare and I can understand something about how hard it must be for you.                                                                Has your present medication helped. If not, or you had only a little benefit from it, talk to your GP about trying a different medication. Some antidepressants are very useful in dealing with anxiety.                                                         A particular antidepressant worked wonders for me and I haven't had a panic attack for years - You'll never get used to the panic, panic is panic.  Hope you find a medication which is more useful for you.  Philip.

Hi Daisy,

I feel for you and totally get it. We must keep on trying to rid ourselves of this incideous disease. I am about to go the natural option and get off my meds after speaking with the Dr. I watched a webinar last night and the message that I got is, regular meditation may replace serotonin and oxytocin naturally. I also do yoga a few times a week. Seeing the Psychiatrist regularly is a must. So we will see what happens. I guess there is no quick fix we just have to unravel our jumbled up minds. Take care.

Hello Daisy,

I want to start off by saying I think you're really strong. I also suffer from Anxiety and I too have had to no friends, but this should not hinder you and your progress. Let me just say that the light at the end of the tunnel is not something you reach towards or move towards, you are the light at the end. That light is already within you and you will get to it, I believe that 🙂

I actually know a few people who have driving anxiety and sometimes it can really bare down on a person. All I can really say is repetition, drive around on your own even if it's the suburbs and you just drive around the backstreets. Make a Goal and work towards it, just little by little each and every day.

Panic is not something you adjust to, fear is. You FEAR that you won't progress, you FEAR that things won't get better.

But for those kids, I know you can. My Mum was the victim of Domestic Violence for 17 years,  and she still got up everyday made sure we got to school, did her absolute best to make sure we got away from that. You know what? She damn well did and it was no easy task for her, she had to do it alone with no help.

So I BELIEVE, hell I KNOW that you can overcome this.
