I love my job, I'm an apprentice landscaper. Most mornings you'll find me parked on the side of the road sometime around 6:45 because I've gotten too anxious and too worried about work that day. I'll be fine but then a few minutes into the drive I just feel anxious, it almost feels like I'm going to be sick, it's only 20 minutes away and I know the people really well, I don't know whats wrong with me but its not nice having to deal with it just about every morning :s

Hi there Jay

Welcome to Beyond Blue and thanx for coming here and posting.

That IS awesome to hear that you’re in a job that you love.

Ok, so you really enjoy your job, you know the people really well and hence it sounds like it’s a good bunch to work with (another huge positive – can’t stress that one enough).

So, what are we feeling anxious about on your drive?   Is it something linked with your job?   Or is it something linked with your home?   Or is it something linked with any person that you know – relative, friend, some sort of relationship problem?   None of those?    And you know what, it doesn’t have to be any of those of what I listed and can just be something that’s triggered in your mind for no particular reason.   Does it come to you at any other time?  ON weekends, etc?

It might be worth getting yourself an appointment with a doctor to let them know what’s happening, etc and to see what suggestions they may have for you?

Would love to hear back from you.

Neil

I'm not sure. I have a lot of problems with my parents and I have for years, Dad died last year from a drug overdose and my Mum is abusive and manipulative, I have been trying to cut contact for a long time but she finds a way back into my life.  It happens outside of work sometimes. I've had an anxiety disorder for a few years but this has only come up in the last few months. I get on with my day but I know its normal and definitely not ideal that I basically have an anxiety attack on my way to work each morning. Could be because I'm trying to stay away from Mum but in the past she's managed to stalk me and find me thats causing me so much worry??

Hi there Jay

Thanx so much for your latest response back.

That sounds a very difficult situation with your Mum – so it sounds like she doesn’t live all that far from you?

Do you have other siblings that may be affected by your Mum also?   Just wondering if this is the case, is it possible to catch up with them to see how they deal with her?

Kind regards

Neil

Thanks Neil

My siblings are all younger than me and live in foster care, so I don't have much contact with them, only organised visits once a month.

Mum doesn't live that close actually, about a 25 min drive away. Doesn't help that she's on drugs and stuff.

Been trying to get an AVO for a while now but it's not happening - the police don't seem to be helping me out with anything, makes it hard.
