I want to eat but I can't

Guest_206

Hi there,

I have an eating disorder history and am currently struggling so much with trying to feed myself regularly. I want to eat, but I'm just not eating as much as I should be. It's like I am just so incredibly picky and fussy that I will go hungry rather than eat if I am not fully tempted by it. Does anyone else experience this? Like I have some food in the house now, but I'm not tempted or craving it, so I've just gone hungry. I know this is bad. As I'm writing this, I feel like my ED must be in the driver's seat.

Hello Guest, I had to reply back to you as your comment has been missed, I'm very sorry and my utmost apologies for being in a position you are definitely struggling with, and dearly hope you are still checking your thread.

I'm not too experienced in your condition but hope that just a couple of pointers may be able to assist you.

If you can contact Butterfly at Helpline - Butterfly Foundation 'https://butterfly.org.au', you call them now on 1800 33 4673 on chatline or by email.

You can also call 1300 550 236 who handle eating disorders in Victoria, but if you are in another state they will be able to advise you, these are 2 and there are other sites, but I want to leave at 2, so it won't be too confusing.

I do hope this can begin the help you need and would really love to hear back from you.

My best.

Geoff.

Great recognition and self awareness to realise your own lose of appetite!

I don't have too much experience with eating illnesses personally, though from watching a family member of mine battle this, my ongoing encouragement and concern for her health came from how much she was eating.

If you're unable to recognise the ways for righting your diet by your own analysis', I'd recommend seeing a professional as they most definitely will have had professional (and even personal!) experience in knowing the relevant remedies.

Good luck, and we hope this phase of concern to yourself passes soon!

Hello Xg, please don't feel alone in this process, we're here to support you.

Geoff.

Hi Guest_206,

welcome to the forums and thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear that you are struggling with an eating disorder. I don’t know if you are seeing a psychologist for your eating disorder, if not then I would recommend to speak to your GP to refer you to one. A psychologist can help provide you with techniques and give you a plan to reach the goals you require to get back on track. I personally don’t have experience with this but I did stress eat a lot when I was younger and I can understand how hard it is. Of corse you are not alone in this situation and there are others who suffer from eating disorders. You’ve mentioned that you are picky with food, maybe try to stock up your pantry with the foods that you like so you’ll feel more comfortable with eating. I’m not sure if you live alone or with someone, but if you live with people try to have regular meals with them. This can help motivate you to eat regularly. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your supportive comments. Unfortunately I live alone so there's no one to help me eat. But today I cooked dinner which is a win for me so that was good. And yes, I try to keep my house full of foods I like, but even then I get picky and won't eat them.

I have a Psychologist and see her fortnightly so I'll be able to chat with her about this soon.

Hi Guest_206

Thank you for reaching out here.

And thumbs up for dinner prep! This is truly a win and I am so happy for you! Things like that count a lot and it’s great to anchor yourself on those little wins as they will always pull you up towards your goal. You want to eat regular meals. You cooked yourself a dinner today. How about trying to do the same tomorrow? If not, that’s fine, maybe a day after. Same ingredients? Fine by me. If you end up eating them, that’s the win. However, expanding the range of foods might help you find something new that you might like. No pressure there, though, just throwing some ideas in.
Also, eating smaller meals but often or snacking so your pallet won’t go overloaded with certain tastes?

Great to hear you are talking to your Psy about it. Well done.
