Hypnotherapy for Asbestosis Fear

Has anyone tried hynotherapy and if so did it work for you? I have a complete fear of my children developing asbestosis due to the fact that we have renovated an old house that has cement sheet. We have had two professionals out who work in demolition and deal with asbestos on a daily basis who said it ISN'T but my head keeps telling me it IS. I have panic attacks about the fact I may have exposed my children to asbestos and when I hear the word, it makes my anxiety go through the roof. Eventhough I have had counselling which has helped me in all other aspects of my anxiety, this seems to be something I can't get past.

Hi Sunnyside6,

Firstly, welcome to the forums.

I haven't done hypnotherapy before but are you wanting to try it to see if you can somewhat try to break these feelings you have about your children being exposed to asbestos? When you said counselling helped a little bit, what did it help with? Are you still going?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to better understand where you are coming from.

My best for you,

Jay

Hello Sunnyside6, thanks for posting your comment.

My son who suffers from OCD also had to have an old shed removed at the back of his yard and it hard the old cement sheeting, it was hard not like the cement sheeting these days which will break quite easily if needed.

He has always been afraid that it contained asbestos so he asked me being an ex-builder/handyman, so I told him if you don't break, saw it or drill it where any fibres float in the air, then there will be no problem at all.

If you have had 2 professionals who deal with the removal of asbestos, then you can be guaranteed all will be safe.

What you maybe having are 'intrusive thoughts' these can come with anxiety and especially if you have OC.

Google 'intrusive thoughts' and a large section will appear because it's something that is talked about alot. Geoff.

Hi Jay,

I found the counselling really helpful in being able to rationalize my thoughts and I am finding my anxiety has improved a lot but my counselor has come to a brick wall when it comes to these asbestosis fears, and that's why she suggested hypnotherapy. I have enquired about it and it sound promising but a little expensive. If it means I can move forward from these thoughts and get on with my life, it will be money well spent. 😀
