Health anxiety please help

KMTE

This is my second time posting. I've been recently diagnosed with anxiety- health anxiety, ocd, panic disorder which has caused mild depression. I've been to three different doctors multiple times and had various tests for various health conditions that all came back fine. I'm rural which means it can be along time between appointments with gps and mental health workers. I basically spend all day thinking I have various life threatening conditions wrong with me which my anxiety then tends to mimic the symptoms causing a flow on effect. I guess I just want to here other people's experiences with health anxiety and some of the symptoms they get to make me feel less alone in all this.

Thanks 🙂

Hi K, welcome

I have had anxiety and it now lingets a little. It peaked in 1987 and I then got a great therapist.

One of the best peices of advice and help was teaching me to reject unreal or intrusive thoughts. I learned to separate them from my life. Fear from things about to happen I'd ask myself what the likelihood would be they will happen eg what am I going to do if my wife leaves me (after a small tiff), will my car last me the whole year ? Etc.

So work on that if possible

Here are two relevant threads. Use google

Hello again KMTE. I replied to your first thread 2 days ago. For anybody else reading this thread, KMTE's other thread can be found at:

https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/anxiety/anxiety-and-swallowing-problems

BB prefer members to stick to their original thread, unless it differs considerably in topic. I note that both your threads relate specifically to anxiety symptoms and issues. It is much easier for members to keep track of your story if it is contained in one thread, plus it solves the problem of doubling up of information. Can I therefore ask that you please stick to one thread, rather than swapping between two?

I also note that you have a number of replies on your original thread, which you have not yet responded to. I am therefore wondering if you know how to get back to your first thread? If not, you will notice towards the top of your screen, 4 grey / blue tabs named: All Posts; New Posts; My Threads. You should click on the My Threads tab and it will list all theads that you have contributed to so far. Which will currently be 2. I know that the members who took the time to provide you with replies will be very appreciative of a return response from you.

I personally do not have any experience with health anxiety, so am unable to help in that regard. However there are many posters here who do, and you are definitely not alone in that regard. I would suggest that you have a browse through the existing threads contained in the "Anxiety" section of the Forums and have a look for some that are specifically dedicated to health anxiety. There are a few there.

Please feel free to post a reply to any of those existing threads. Members are always most appreciative of any advice or feedback, and happy to answer any questions that you'd like to ask.

Kindest,

Taurus

No problems KMTE, I thought that may have been the case. I never knew either when I first started, at least until someone pointed it out to me.

Please note also that I made a typo in my instructions. There are in fact only 3 rectangle tabs, not 4. Sorry. (-:
