Fear of ED relapse

Hi,

This is my first post, hoping to reach out to anyone who has had anorexia and helping for some hope for 2020.

Sadly I can never seem to fully commit to recovery and got scared when I recently went back on meds and seeing a therapist that has reopened a can of worms as such.

I would like to chat with anyone who has any tips and similar stories, recoveries, relapses tips.

Firstly, thanks for reaching out and welcoming you to the forums

If there's one thing I learnt about "recovery", is that it's never linear, no matter how much we want it to be. There will be days that will be "worse" than others, days that are "better" than others.

Well done on seeing a therapist too, we can learn so much from them, and it sure can be hard to be 'triggered' by some things when we share it with the therapist. I have been through that.

I want to share that I haven't been admitted to ED/mental health ward for over a year now (I think of this when I saw your thread topic). I have been diagnosed with Bipolar and I would say I'm 'recovering' well. I practice DBT skills everyday - especially mindfulness, opposite action and TIP skills the most - I would like to share. Like you said in terms of fully committing to recovery, I find it can be hard to stick with it - and there is some fear around it - which I feel is ok, as it's part of it. It takes time, it takes trial and error to see what works too.

Welcome to the forums and thanks for being here. I can see that Suzi (bipolarbeauty) has already offered such a warm welcome and great support - I also really love the advice and techniques. DBT is often used with eating disorders too.

You said that you can never fully commit to recovery - what would it mean if you were to fully commit?

I'm really glad that you are seeing a therapist, even if there is cans of worms. While I hate the cans of worms too, I know that in the long run it really does help. I encourage you to chat to them about how you're feeling too - sometimes it's not obvious to them how much it's effecting you outside of the sessions.

One resource for recovery that I'd really like to share is Recovery Warriors - https://www.recoverywarriors.com/  It's such a great one and free to use - not only has tips and things but lots of stories of hope even when recovery isn't a straight line. If you like Podcasts it might be worth listening to theirs too.
