CONSTANT Panic Attacks everyday!! Nothing seems to work

Hi I have always had anxiety and it has always come in different forms throughout my life but lately I feel like I’m suffocating everyday all day and I don’t know how to stop it!! I’ve tried meditating, breathing exercises and more and whilst that stuff does work in the moment, I just go back to suffocating almost immediately after. I lead a very busy life so it’s majorly inconvenient for this to keep happening and there is only so much time I can put aside for breathing exercises/meditation each day before it becomes an issue 😭 I have been prescribed medication by my doctor but I really do want to avoid using that daily, I don’t think that’s a healthy habit to get into at all so really want to see if anyone else has ever had this problem and how they helped themselves long term?

Hello Dear Cecece,

A warm welcome to our Beyond Blue Forums..
We are sorry that your struggling so much with your anxiety..

All.. the things your doing to manage your anxiety are the same as I am doing..and it is hard to find time through our busy days ....

I think it’s up to the individual if medication is for them or not..I struggled for many years trying to “fix” my anxiety without success...I am now on daily meds for my anxiety and it’s made a big difference for me and how I’m managing it now...and I’m in a much better position to do so....But what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for the others..

I am learning through my psychologist, that being very mindful of what we are doing does help to distract our anxiety...I mean if I am doing something mindfully, my full attention is on what I’m doing and not on my anxious thoughts..this doesn’t always work for me..but so far it’s the best I can do for me...

Cecece...I feel that if you can keep on trying to distract your anxiety by doing things you like, putting your full attention into what you’re doing, as well as breathing exercises when your able to find time through the day..is something that you may consider trying...also if you search our website top right corner of this page for “Anxiety”..we have lots of threads and posts you might find something that might also be of help to you..

Please talk here anytime you feel up to talking..we care here for you dear Cecece..

My kindest wishes and caring thoughts..

Grandy....

Hello Cecece,

I feel you in this: I lead a very busy life so it’s majorly inconvenient for this to keep happening and there is only so much time I can put aside for breathing exercises/meditation each day before it becomes an issue. That used to be me as well. As it turns out, I got control of my anxiety when I actually started letting go of some of the things that I was busy with and making time to actually relax (and I mean being in the moment rather than to relax while thinking about the next task). Similar to you, mindfulness and breathing exercises used to work in the moment and then I went back to my usual routine and the effects were lost. On the plus side, at least you know that breathing exercises and mindfulness exercises do work - it's your lifestyle that you may want to address.

Have you considered taking a break? A week off to relax may be something to consider. Alternatively, are you able to take some time off (say an hour or so) daily, just to give time to yourself to do something you find relaxing?

Take care,
M

Hello,

sorry to hear you are feeling this way...

I’ve been on medication to manage my anxiety and I think it’s the best thing I ever did... thank goodness there is medication to treat it... I think of it as if someone was having a heart problem they would be given heart medication.... same for anxiety.. it needs treating.. along with other therapies meditation, mindfulness... 😊
