Can I ring BBlue to talk my way thru a panic attack?

Is it OK to ring the Beyond Blue helpline to talk to a counsellor when in the middle of a panic attack? There is no one else I can ring when in this position as it would be pretty scary for an untrained friend, family etc to hear me during one!

Would I be wasting BB's phone time if I ring them? Is there a time limit I can speak for?

I have my phone off the hook today checking each hour to see if any messages, then taking it off again. I can't think straight. I have so much to do. I am shaking and beginning to lose it.

Hey moonstruck,

Yes, I've called the help line when I was in the middle of a big panic and it's totally okay. Often simply having a voice to talk to can help us get back on track with reality.

But if you are ever at risk, it is best to call lifeline (13 11 14) or suicide call back (1300 659 467) who are better trained to help with those thoughts.

Sorry I don't think I've kept up to date with your story recently, but if you're still seeing a psychologist or counsellor, you could try moving your appointment closer too.

Hey Moon

Go for it.....its a support line and you need support

Anxiety attacks are no fun

Take care of you

Paulx

thanks James and BlondGuy..... Yes I will ring them but will probably start to cry as I begin talking.. hope that is OK?

James there is no danger of my harming myself...no matter how bad things are or how much I am suffering, I would never do that to my sons....I would never give them that burden to carry for the rest of their lives..

.(just reassuring people if I sound desperate at times.)

Hey Moon

Of course it is....The crying is part of talking about your problem

The support line people are gentle and non judgemental too

Hugs

Absolutely okay. The people on the phone lines are very lovely and supportive.

I always tell me friends if they just want to sit there and cry with someone, I'd be happy to sit in silence or just chatter away for them. So the same goes for you on these forums as well.

HI Moon

Sorry I haven't been on the forums or in the cafe for a while. Hope you are feeling better know. It is always ok to call BB if you are struggling. That is what they are there for. To help. I have found them really helpful. Just knowing someone is there and reaffirming to me that it was going to be ok helped me a lot.

Yes I did make the call. she was fine, let me vent it all out which is what I needed Have calmed down quite a bit now, at least not in the middle of a panic attack. they are so horrible. I always feel the need to talk talk talk to someone "safe" and best that it is someone anonymous.

she suggested what was elevating my panic and making me worse, was not coming to any decisions at all...and it had dragged on so long over weeks it was the indecision and over thinking about possible bad outcomes that was distressing me more than any actual result that may, or may not , arise from any decision She said I would feel better once a decision had been made - at least I would not be whirling around in that horrible limbo land full of unknown demons.

I wish I could be strong like other people, say "I want to do this" or "this is what I want and what I am going to do" not caring what others thought. I am so tired tonight. I really need a rest tonight. good night.
