Hi,
About 5 years ago i had my first panic attacks i seeked therapy and slowly improved but i could never shake my phobias.
Recently my family has had a couple of stressful months and the anxiety has flared back up again. I know anxiety is so individual but has anyone with panic disorder found relief from anti depressants? Or is there any other therapy anyone has found useful?

Hi all
I'm feeling much better mentally no where near as anxious as i have been so that's a massive plus for me. However i am still so groggy but I'm still doing stuff if that makes sense.
I have to work on Wednesday so I'm hoping I'm able to focus and do my job properly that's my main concern as its still a struggle to get out of bed in the morning.
Thankyou for checking in on me

Hi lelebe,
That is great to read that you feeling better... Hopefully Wednesday is a good day for you and you can work through the day without any hiccups. Just keep reminding yourself, you are getting the help you need and are on the track to recovery.
Also a note to cakeboss - panic attacks are so hard to overcome, I have been there many times. You are doing all the right things by being in constant conversation with your GP and getting the meds right... I have found doing stuff that really helps ease your mind is the key.. mine is listening to music, being around friends or family or watching a TV show I enjoy. Anything to distract your mind.
My best,
Jay

Hey lelebe
You are an amazing person by being so proactive with your meds to reduce the severity of the anxiety..Well done!
I felt exactly the same after I started taking my AD's...the anxiety does reduce for sure. The groggy feeling will pass as I had the same 'foggy' feeling too.
Let time pass.......getting out of bed may be difficult...I understand....
BballJ (Jay) and LH are spot on above with their advice.....you have a great support network.
You are also one of many thousands of people that find some well needed peace of mind by taking meds to rebuild a solid platform so we can heal from this awful condition...
Its great to have you as part of the family on Beyond Blue lelebe 🙂
My kind thoughts for you
Paul

HI lelebe.
I have been on my current AD medication for around a year now and I have found it very helpful with my anxiety management. Yes it is not a complete cure but it is a good tool. I have also had to take some medications at night as well. When I went on a new AD I felt groggy and a bit tired as well. It took me a few weeks to get used to. Yes it may suck for a month but I suggest trying to hang in there. For me I got used to it and my anxiety continued to get better. I am glad my psych kept encouraging me to give it a solid month.
After a month on my new AD I found the benefits out weighted the side effects. The grogginess was getting less and less after two weeks. I suggest hanging in there for bit. Also be open with your dr about your side effects too. This was helpful as my dr gave me suggestions on how to reduce them (e.g. eat as soon as you get up to help you wake up, exercise in the morning etc)

All of you are so wonderful i don't think i would have ever tried meds again if it hadn't been for this forum so I'm so glad that i did write in 😊
I will definitely stick with them so thanks for the reassurance my doctor did mention i would feel a bit tired but this tiredness is like having a newborn baby again haha.
I feel that i am slowly getting there and my headspace is already changing.
I will keep you all up to date with my progress, i have my first psychologist appointment next month too.
Thanks guys

Just checking in....i went to work today and within 5 minutes of being there i had a panic attack, i was so upset but managed to stay there without running away i just have 3 more days left of work this week.
I feel like when my dizziness and sleepiness stops then i won't feel so disoriented which won't lead to further attacks...... wish me luck😉

Hi lelebe,
Well done for staying at work after the panic attack, that takes a lot of courage. Hopefully once the dizziness subsides then it will all contribute to the panic attacks stopping... every day is chance to get better, remember that.
My best,
Jay

It was absolutely terrifying when it happened as they always are but i got through it so I'll just take it day by day and hopefully it subsides soon ☺

Hi lelebe
BballJ is spot on as usual...The severity of the anxiety should decrease on a day by day basis....It may hang around for a while too. Everyone is different. In the meantime you will get used to work with your meds.
The anxiety feelings are bad news but even an anxiety attack has a limited time frame 🙂
You are doing an amazing job elelbe!!
you are not alone with these feelings....one many thousands
my kind thoughts
Paul
