Anxiety flare up

lelebe
Community Member

Hi,

About 5 years ago i had my first panic attacks i seeked therapy and slowly improved but i could never shake my phobias.

Recently my family has had a couple of stressful months and the anxiety has flared back up again. I know anxiety is so individual but has anyone with panic disorder found relief from anti depressants? Or is there any other therapy anyone has found useful?

Thanks Jay

I actually thought if i could take one positive about my experience it would be that i have so much more empathy and understanding of others now.

Its also helped me with my own children

Hi LH i did therapy many years ago and found it to be helpful so I'm looking forward to doing it again. I'm a little nervous but i know it will be good for me 😊

Hi lelebe,

I think that definitely come with the territory of recovering from a mental illness. The fact you gain such a good understanding of it and you can help people who deal with something similar to you.

Keep up the great work.

My best,

Jay

Hi all. I've just been reading through the posts to and from lelebe.

Lelebe, it's so good to know you are getting there. It takes a while for the full impact of the meds to kick in, and for us to regain a foundation of confidence in ourselves. For me, It was so good to feel like the real me again. The weight thing can be managed when you're ready. You are doing great! Big pat on the back to you! I just want to share something with you that I hope will encourage you.

After going through some "breakthrough anxiety" recently (long story), my dosage was increased, and I experienced some start up symptoms (uhhhh). Apparently, this is quite common! I'm 2 weeks on the higher dosage now and feeling much better again. Through all this, and discussions with my psych, I've learned I need to make some lifestyle changes, like looking after myself and making time for me! As a mum, and a person who wants to "fix" things for others, I've tended to busy myself externally and not really taken any "me time" to do things I enjoy that don't involve some kind of performance or expectation for or of others. I don't know if this makes any sense, but I just want to encourage you to take care of and make time for you.

To everyone else. Your posts and encouragements are great. Isn't it wonderful to know that we are not on our own in this. God bless you all.

warmest regards

Hi Babyboomer i can totally relate to what you're saying. Since kids i have definitely put myself last and i never really take time out just for me as i love being around my family but i also realize this is necessary. I just never know how to do this so i guess I'll have to learn haha
