Hi Bain,

Your recent panic attack sounds distressing, overwhelming and frightening. It must have been such an intense experience for you...

I think you’re very brave to open up here. Personally, I think it wouldn’t hurt to reach out for some professional help. I feel it can often be nerve racking at first, but I believe that there’s a lot to be gained by speaking up...

For example, I wonder if you might like to book an extended appointment with your GP. You could open up about your struggles, and maybe enquire about their mental health care plan too while you’re there. If your GP decides it appropriate, the care plan would entitle you to a certain number of Medicare rebatable psychologist visits...

Thanks again for sharing your struggles. As I said, I think that’s brave...

While there’s no pressure, it would be lovely to hear how you’re going when/if you’re feeling up to it.

kindness and care,

Pepper

A couple of years back I had the worst panic attack I've ever experienced. Like you, I was convinced I would either be dead or completely insane in a matter of moments and there was no stopping it. My partner didn't know what to do so she called an ambulance. Of course, when the paramedics arrived and checked me over, they found absolutely nothing physically wrong with me. So on top of it being the most traumatic experience of my life, I felt so utterly humiliated by it afterwards. I still cringe when I think about it.

In the weeks after this happened, I admitted to my GP that things have gotten pretty bad and I don't think I can manage it on my own - I need some kind of help. From there, we put together a plan. The plan worked. I'm happy to say that I'm recovering now.

For me, there was no way anxiety was just going to disappear on its own. I couldn't "ride it out". Things only started to get better after I saw someone. Maybe it's the same for you?

Good luck!

Hi Bain and a wave to Step Twelve,

You’re most welcome 🙂

Is it okay if I ask how you have been doing since your opening post, Bain?

Kind and caring thoughts,
