The last 14 months have been quite hard and painful, I know that I need to go see a pshycologist and a GP. The problem is I have moved interstate to get away from what was hurting me. Im blessed with my fiance and two staffys, however being in such a new place and knowing no one Im stupidly scared to go to a new gp or even trying to find the right Phsycologist... I am at a point where if I cant help myself, I’m worried it will destroy those I love the most. The fear cripples you kinda, like your frozen in your position and cant even speak. Has anyone else been through similar and can give some advice or share their experience?

Hello Elly!

Welcome to the forums, I'm sorry your struggling with a hard and painful time..You'll meet a bunch of lovely non judgemental people who care about you and want to help you through your rough patches..

I moved into a new area 3 years ago and needed help with my meant health and was so afraid to go to a new GP, but as my Mental Health started to deteriorate even more I rang around and made a long appointment with a gp. It was very daunting walking into the Drs office but I'm glad I did, When she asked me what I was there for I just broke down because I needed someone to care and she did, imo most Drs are now very understanding about Mental Health and only want to help you. In NSW, not sure anywhere else the GP, will assess you maybe give you Medes then put you onto a Mental Health Care Plan and refer you to a psychologist, where in NSW you receive , I'm not sure if it's 8 or 10 free visits to a psychologist.

Maybe your fiance who sounds very caring can go with you to the Drs for support,to make you feel more relaxed, but please it's really very important that you can get to see a GP,

Im pleased that you want to get help and are reaching out that is the first and hardest step to take. Well done for doing that. I went through the fear that your talking about it is crippling yes, I can agree with you there, getting help for yourself is paramount to start your healing, after the first Drs visit it does get easier..

I hope I was of help to you, even a little. please feel free to come here and talk all you want/need to,

Im certain you'll get others popping in to help you ang give you some good suggestions

Please Elly, be kind to yourself your worth it.

Kind thoughts,

Grandy.

Thankyou so much.. it helps to know you can actually get yourself physically to the dr’s and phsycologist. I have had a mental health plan before in melbourne, I will take your advice in asking my fiance to come with me. Ive never thought of asking him..

Hello Elly,

Thank you for coming back to me and telling me that you will ask your fiancé to go with you, It's really good that your fiancé is so supportive towards you and if you wanted to it's only my thoughts and if you wanted him to you could both go to everything together and both learn to manage your mental health together..

Kind thought,

Grandy.
