Hey guys! I'm 24 turning 25. Don't know where my career is heading

So pretty much ive studied multiple qualifications, and somewhat feel like im on a path, but can get disheartened quite easily.

Any advice is appreciated,

So pretty much I studied a bachelors in psychology and then moved into construction and will have my construction degree soon, initially i was offered a construction course but declined, im not sure why to be honest. However I feel as though I dont know exactly what i want to do yet in the industry.

I'm working on site as a labourer doing renovations, but have the qualifications to be an entry level administrator or junior project manage or estimator, but im dying to work on site and be site based, i love being amongst it, i was thinking of doing a trade but my parents are really against this and im worried about work consistency and ongoing potential earning capacity (i have to support a few people). I would like to site supervise eventually, but cant really get there without a trade background.

Whats the answer here? Just go against my parents and do a trade? It feels like my psych degree is somewhat wasted in this and i dont want to disappoint my parents

it sounds like you're having a pretty sucky time trying to figure everything out and i'm sorry. sometimes it takes a little time to find your passion and that is completely okay, if it's not right, it's not right.

and you won't be 'wasting' a degree by not doing it. if you tried it, learnt about it and went for it whilst you thought you liked it, it's not a waste at all. it's okay to change your mind. life isn't all straight roads. it's confusing sometimes.

i believe that if your passion is with a trade or you want to do trade, just do it! even if it's not the most money in the world, even if your parents don't want it. try your best and give it everything you've got. your mental health and life is yours to decide. not anyone else's.

and again, if you try a trade and discover it's not for you, it's not wasteful or disappointing. it's just another step in discovering where you want to be in life. and that's okay.

i'm not too good with this 'advice' thing. but it seems as if you just need to follow your heart in this situation and forget about the outside problems (i.e family, money etc.) if you love it enough, you can make it work...no matter what it is.

Thank you for your post and I can see the confusion all throughout - it sounds like it's been a bit of a mismash in where to go and what to do.

I understand that there's a few factors that you're thinking about like what your parents think, earning capacity etc - all totally valid - but I wonder if you can pop that aside for a sec and just try and focus on what it is you want and where you feel most passionate about?

While it's a bit strange, I think visualisation can be a really good technique in seeing what's interesting to you - who are the types of people you want to work with? Would you rather be based in an office or on your feet all day? Do you prefer stability or spontaneity? Thinking about the emotional side of things rather than the practical side of things could provide some more clarity.

I also agree with rlo that your degree isn't a waste. Team management, working with people, implementing safety procedures and mental health in workers are all things that come to mind when I think of both of these fields.
