Everything feels like too much

I'm not sure how to say this, I find it so hard to write what I'm feeling and going through. I'm going to try, this may sound weird but here I go. I have been feeling down again, being stuck in lockdown has made it hard. I have felt a lot of pressure from school and home, people expect so much of me and I feel I don't live up to their expectations.

I feel like a failure at times and life gets a little too much but I don't want to talk to anyone, I just can't get words out. I feel like my family is often annoyed/angry at me, they constantly say I'm on my phone and being lazy. I've also had a major writers block and I can't write anything, nothing is sparking ideas. I've been getting emotional lately, but it doesn't last for long, maybe a couple of days and then I'm fine for a while.

My major problem is I don't want to talk to anyone, I dislike going to someone about my problems, I struggle to express what I want to say and then I go quiet. I'm not sure what to do.

Hi Someone-who-sleeps,

We want you to know that what you have said doesn't sound weird. Pressure at home and at school can be really tough and when you add lockdown on top of that we can understand that you are feeling this way. We think that you have expressed yourself really well here and we want to thank you for taking the time and making the effort to write this post.

We think that it might be time to talk to someone about these feelings so that they can help you to process these feelings and thoughts. You can always call us on 1300 22 4636 or you can call Kidshelpline on 1800 55 1800. You can also try the webchat instead if talking on the phone is hard, just follow these links: Beyond Blue or Kidshelpline

We know that talking about these things is hard, but we thought we would give you those options just in case typing is easier than talking. We also really hope that you have a look around and join some other conversations here on the forums and that yo uupdate us on how you are going, if you feel comfortable.

Thanks again for being an important part of this community, your voice and your story are really important to us.

Kind regards,
Sophie M

Hi, welcome

Yeh, it isnt weird here. We are here to listen so if you feel the desire to let out more of your feelings you are welcome to do so.

Sometimes when we say, visit a GP or psychologist or anyone like that we freeze up. It isnt easy to explain our situation to a stranger. So what I think is a good idea is to write it down say enough to fit an A4 page. You can start by typing you do find it hard to speak and that "I've listed below what I feel is my main issues.... then list them in priority eg

1/ I get down "x" number of times a month for "y" length of time.

2/ I'm told I'm lazy

3/ I'm on my phone a lot and they dont like it

and so on.....

Once he/she has read the note they would have had an introduction, one big thing you dont need to do. I almost guarantee that he/she will then understand from the start what one of your problems is and work around it by using subtle questions.

I hope you find this forum a safe place to chat and grow with ideas.

Hey I totally get where you're coming from.

You even making this post is absolutely amazing, you are acknowledging what you are feeling which is one step closer to your goals, you should be so proud. I'm currently in year 11/12 and have been struggling with studying and being motivated for anything and 100% feel like i'm letting myself and others down - it's very common, especially in teens.

Even the fact that we came out of lockdown makes it so much harder, you are not alone. I know talking to people can be hard, expressing your feelings to someone else with the thoughts of what the other person will think of you but trust me, it immediately makes you feel SO much better. Sometimes when I don't feel like talking to someone about how i'm feeling, I just have a shower and talk to myself and honestly, it works wonders but it doesn't amount to hearing someone else understanding.

Again, there is nothing more convenient in lockdown than to sit on your phone on tiktok and things, It takes up most of my day. It's honestly parental instinct to draw being on your phone to being lazy, but I'm assuming they want the best of you and that it's coming from a good place. I too feel bad when I just sit on screens instead of studying and thats a sign, use it to shut them of, lock them up if you have to and do it, use all of your will power.
