Hi Pommie, a warm welcome to you.
Relocation to a different country is a big transition. Readjusting can take time. It sounds like it may have triggered a fair bit of mental unrest and overthinking is the main cause of sleeplessness.Leaving behind life as we have known it doesn't always come easy.
It makes sense that addressing the root cause of this unrest would be the way to go before letting it go too far. Sleep deprivation has been used as a form of torture... The fact that it has begun to affect the relationship with your loved ones shows this cause needs to be looked into.
If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, you will find an Anxiety/Depression checklist in the Facts section. Overthinking and sleeplessness are common symptoms of both. It will help you find out what it is you are up against. Having a talk with a GP would be a good start. We are all different so react differently to medication. Sometimes, it takes a while to figure what works best for you. A proper diagnosis will go a long way towards finding an adequate solution.
There are techniques and strategies that can help with overthinking. Some of them can be googled (like Relaxed Body Scan, Relaxed breathing, Mindfulness etc...).
I hope you can soon get to the bottom of this restlessness and reclaim peace of mind.

Hey U.
Aside from some of the other advice given...
Here are a few things that we can do to aid us to sleep better and improve sleeping habits -
Make sure your room is cool. Its warm here in OZ, and if youve moved from The UK youre used to cooler weather. Your body will be adjusting to the temp change, so keeping the room cool at night is essential.
Remember to limit any stimulants - coffee, sugars, drugs and meds etc. Some of these will effect the sleeping cycle and keep you up, rather than help you to sleep.
Writing in a journal is good for clearing the mind for the night - just get it all out on paper, and trust that if its that important, you can deal with it in the morning.
Certain foods can help sleep quality as well - go for Low GI foods. You'll be surprised at how a change of diet, will also help with sleep!
Getting more exercise in...exerting the body, so it naturally goes into sleep-repair mode.
And, seeing professional help too. If the non-sleep keeps on going, than youll need to speak to someone in depth about it.
Goes without saying but sleep is vital!
You take good care of you.
MuchLove
