Tell me about your beyond blue name...

There are some great and creative names being used on beyond blue. I am really interested in getting to know some of the stories behind them and getting to know you the process.

I thought I'd introduce myself through explaining my name.

Gruffudd.

It is Welsh and pronounced Griffith. I have found a sense of place and belonging in my Welsh background - it has always been there but I never really owned it or thought much of it until the last couple of years. Exploring it has helped me learn about my dad, and answered some of the questions about him like why he thinks and does some things. It is not my name, rather a family name from my grandmother's side. She was perhaps the biggest influence growing up, she had us kids after school and taught the fine traditions of making welsh cakes and was just the best listener, drank litres of tea.

Hey Gonegirl...the child within us never goes anywhere . S/he cannot leave us. Where else would s/he go ?

What goes missing (and can give us the slip so easily) is our connection to this child. She needs you as much as you need her. See her, holding out her arms ? She wants a hug. If she is hurt, she needs you to reach out and hold her, to tell her everything will be OK. And she needs you to do this regularly. As often as you can.You will both feel better for it.

I know she is important to you. You chose HER as your username. She needs to know this.

And don't let anyone tell you that there's something wrong with talking with a part of yourself, these people have no idea what they're missing by losing touch !

And don't let anyone tell you that there's something wrong with talking with a part of yourself. Starwolf.

Thank God for that, because I talk to different parts of myself all the time. (there's like a whole crowd in there!)

I think in society if you are found talking to yourself then people think (ohhh something wrong with her) and she should be put in a special home or has she escaped from the home.

It is when I see people talking to themselves (but actually find they are talking to the Bluetooth in their ear or on their phones) I look at them ohh ok with a kind a frown unsure look on my face and then have a laugh as it does look strange. But I also think if people are honest to themselves we all do it, I know I do it. I found it helps sort the jumble in my head kind a like mental filing or if I am cooking I am mentally planning each step.

I have been stopped on the street while searching for a location while trying to follow a map (which I am hopeless at) I was honestly stopped on the street by a lady and she asked if I was ok and needed help. I looked at her strange and she said you sound lost. I was shocked and embarrassed with it and she told me not to worry as she does it too. We both ended up laughing and talking about this exact thing.

I think it is healthy to talk to yourself, not just with affirmations but as I said it helps clear clutter from your mind and organise your mind. Some say nothing wrong talking to yourself but if you answer yourself back that is the problem but for me it can be a chance to have a laugh at yourself.

Starwolf your are exactly right "don't let anyone tell you that their is something wrong with talking with a part of yourself". It is healthy to do so.

Hi guys.  I'm originally from N.Z, I've been here in Oz since 1988.  In case you're wondering why 'pipsy'.  When I first joined BB a little over 2 years ago, I tried every name in the book, including my middle name Lisa.  Then I remembered a neighbour who was also a close friend years ago when I first left home had a cat called Pipsy.  She was a beautiful, big, cuddly cat who loved to curl up by the fire and would purr contently.  I have been told I'm very catlike (not catty) in that I love to curl up in bed, or when I'm watching t.v or reading, I tend to curl up too.  I suppose if I could purr, I would.  Pipsy was also a very sensitive cat in that she always seemed to know when I was upset or crying.  When I was 'down' she would curl up on my chest, lay her head across my neck and 'lick' my tears away.  I've never known another cat like her.  When I chose Pipsy, it was because of those memories of a beautiful, loving cat.  I am very sensitive, easily hurt and when I do hurt someone, I feel very sad because it's never intentional.  I get angry when people are insensitive and say hurtful things to others.  Life's too short to be cruel.

Hi, thanks Shelley.  I have a cousin called Michelle a.k.a Shelley.  Also a friend called Shelley.  You too are blessed with a lovely name.  Both my cousin and friend are really nice people.  Pity sometimes some of us from BB forums can't get together for coffee/tea, nibbles.  I reckon we'd get on really well.

Hi Pipsy,

I think your name is nice too. I also agree it would be amazing if we could all meet up somewhere and have a meeting once even if it is once every couple of months. It is such a beautiful bond that we all build here with one another on BB and I think it is one that will last for many years. As you said Pipsy you have been here for over two years and I hope to do the same.

It is wonderful how when you help others your are also helping yourself with the responses you give. It is the give and take on here, the sharing of our lives, stories and experiences, how we open up and build our strengths to share these thing with one another. I have often read on here that people have announced openly about things which they haven't been able to do before and that is such a blessing for them and shows how warming, welcoming and comfortable people are made to feel here on BB I know I have.

Well I just wanted to share that. It would be lovely to meet you all but I know deep within it is a great pleasure to have meet you all here on BB.

Yes, I agree with you, it can at times feel a little crowded. It's OK if everyone gets on, but it seldom happens. Playing mediator or referee can be a challenge !

And hey, Durras, everybody does it, they just do it silently to avoid public scrutiny...

Reaperbird is the name of character in one of my favourite video games.
I also happen to really adore birds (as well as many other animals!) 😄
