hi new here
I have been a mess for years always waiting for things to go wrong and turn to alcohol to numb the pain. when really it is me who is stuffing everything up. I go round and round in circles fell good for a few days then it all comes back again. its like i have a negative answer for everything instead of seeing the positives in life.then i drink for it all to go away.

Hi crockers,
Welcome to the forum! I'm so, so glad that you found us here and shared a little bit about what's been going on with you. The relationship with alcohol (or any substance really) that you're describing is a very, very common one as I'm sure you know and a cycle that can be tricky to break. But I can tell just from your short post that you have incredible insight into your patterns of thought and behaviour that may be causing all this.
If you don't mind my asking, what strategies have you found worked well for you in the past? Would you be open to the idea of talking with a trusted friend about your drinking, or seeking some counseling or even an online tool to help you manage?
You don't have to know the answer to any of these right now. But I imagine that the lockdown has not made things any easier– I know for a fact almost everyone is drinking now more than they usually do.
In any case, please feel free to browse the forums and the many threads about alcohol and negative thoughts. You're welcome to share more of your story with others, give some advice, or just "lurk" and read through what other people have said.
Again, a very warm welcome to the forums.

Hello Crockers, Gems and Hobs, one reason and there are many other ways why we drink, but one is to numb what has been happening, and I used it when I was depressed, but it's only a temporary solution because the next day, it's all back once again.
If you do require medical help with the assistance of a psych, they may not want to help you if you are drinking, and I say this, as I was rejected a couple of times by two different psych's.
Best wishes.
Geoff.
