Not being able to handle things and seeking outside help

Bubbatu
Community Member

I have my first psychologist appointment this evening. Throughout my life I have been able to deal with any issues that crop up myself internally. I don't normally share my problems because I am an introvert in the past month I have not been able to work things out in my mind.

I hope that after today I will start feeling better and can resume my normal daily life.

Hello Bubbatu

Welcome to Beyond Blue. I hope your psychology appointment goes well this evening.

It does feel hard and possibly unfair to know you have been able to take care of yourself in the past but have now hit a wall. When did you realise you needed more help than you could give yourself? I think you would have wrestled with that for a while. I am presuming you are depressed but if this is not correct please let us know. We tend to think depression and anxiety because more people have these conditions than others.

It certainly messes up your life as we have all discovered. Forgive me if I have this wrong but are you expecting everything to be put to rights when you see your psychologist tonight? It will take a while to understand what is happening in your life and learn how to manage this. I presume you organised the psychologist meeting through your GP. Did he/she suggest taking any medication?

I would love to know a little more about you if that's OK. Perhaps you can write in again after your appointment and tell us how it went.

Hi Bubbatu,

Firstly, welcome to the forums.

For much of my life I was the same, thought I could deal with anything that popped up mentally but then it sort of just stops and you realise you can't. It's quite confronting, I find. It is good to read you are going to a psychologist, did you want to share how that went for you?

You can start to feel better that is for sure, is there anything you would like to get out of the forums or any way we can help you? We are mostly made up of mental health sufferers ranging from depression to anxiety, to PTSD and many others, so we support each other where we can and just give each other an outlet to vent their issues.

My best for you,

Jay

hello Bubbatu, welcome to the site and sometimes we feel as though we can cope with any issues that are confronting ourselves, but these are all the issues that you think are easy to handle, maybe so, but it's those deep hidden problems which are a concern and that's where you will need a psychologist to help you sort them out.
How was your meeting. Geoff.
