Hi everyone im new here. I've suffered depression on and off as an adult, mainly after my babies have been born. Last year I was at my lowest, while at my lowest I had to fight (figuratively) For my right to return to my permanent job as a teacher as the person covering my maternity leave decided to take ownership over her temporary placement. Other staff at my workplace backed this person to the point that a parent teacher meeting I had with her (my child was also in the class) was turned into a mediation set up. My rights as a parent were completely overlooked.
This person has gone now but I can start to feel the same feelings creeping back, I distrust the other staff and feel unsupported by admin. I don't know how to put this aside. Feel helpless most of the time as I am pushed to have only my teacher hat on.

Hey Mseelyk, firstly welcome to the forums, it is great that you have found this place.
Depression and skew our thought patterns so much that if we can get that under control, those feelings and thoughts may dissipate and you can get on with your career.
Are you being treated for the depression?
If not, I would like you to go to the GP and discuss it. It is treatable and as you have a history of it, you know that you can recover from it. It is a matter of getting on top of it and remaining on top of it.
Have you ever been on medication?
Really important that your self care is on point - lower or cut alcohol usage, improve the diet where you can and make sure you are getting some kind of exercise in.
See how you go with the questions above and then we will work on the next part.
Mark.

Hi Mseelyk,
Welcome to our community as it is a great place to get things off your chest to relieve some pressure off your mind.
Good on you for standing your ground keeping your position as i feel this sort of thing could not of been easy for you when you are not feeling your best. Please give yourself some credit for doing a career as a teacher because you all are working in such a diverse field [students, parents, fellow staff members, religions and cultures].
Have you got supports outside of work that you have accessed like family, friends, GP and other health professionals. Where i work our employer provides a service to help their employees who are going through difficult issues professional and private you maybe be able to access something like this with your employer.
In your post you spoke about feeling that you feel, "the same feelings creeping back". This is a bonus to recognise this because you now have the ability to work on it before things becomes too overwhelming for you. I feel it is vital you find supports and things that are able to improve your well being outside of work as well.
When things happen in our lives i feel it is important to acknowledge that it has impacted on us and it is out of our control so we are able to put ourselves in a better position to grow with experiences.
Keep looking after yourself and access the supports you are entitled to.
Gen.
