Hello, and thank you because you have chosen to read this. I'm reaching out tonight because I am finding myself overwhelmed by sad and shocking happenings in our world. I find that when I have quiet time, my thoughts go to things like child abuse, violence against powerless people and animal cruelty and tragedy. I just feel so devastated by the pain and suffering in the world and then I feel so angry and lost when I see that people don't appear to care. People who drive flashy cars and use their money to buy products which have been tested on animals and clothes that have been made by sweat shop workers etc etc. How do people live their lives and turn a blind eye to all that is wrong? It haunts me often. I don't watch the news but sometimes I hear something on the radio or see something on the front page of the paper. It is the stories about innocent children having horrible experiences and the enormity of factory farming and ill treatment of animals which get me the most. And what can I do about it? Only my little bit. I volunteer with abused and neglected kids and I am vegan. I try to tread gently on the earth and be kind. I know what I do helps a little bit. Sometimes it is only that and knowing that my three kids need me that helps me to want to stay in this world. I am grateful for this forum and I truly hope that everyone who has posted tonight can feel a little bit of relief from their pain. I am hoping for you.

Hello Bella Rose - what a beautiful name you have. I think it reflects a beautiful sensitive soul. Welcome to the forum, it's lovely to meet you.
Yes, reading the news can make us think the world is a terrible place eh? Especially if we're sensitive to the pain and suffering of others, which you clearly are.
I really admire what you're doing - volunteering with children who need love, living life by your principles as a vegan. You might not think you're doing enough or that what you do makes no difference - but it does.
Ghandi said 'be the change you want to see in the world'. That's what you are doing, and you are modelling that to your children and to others.
Collectively we're a pretty harmful species, but individually there are so many wonderful, caring people. Maybe it would help you to connect with others who are passionate about making positive change in the world. I find that seeing the good in others helps me be a better person. And it's not always big things, often it's the little things that restore my faith in humanity - like a neighbour watering someone else's garden, or colleagues who bring flowers for someone who's been having a hard time. Look for the good in people, it's there.
Oh, I must tell you of a website I love - it's called the Good News Network, google it, it's full of stories of people's kindness. Always makes me feel better when the rest of the news is so awful.
If you continue to feel this way Bella Rose I would strongly suggest you seek some professional help through a doctor or counsellor. It might be the state of the world that's making you feel depressed - or it might be depression is making you see the world that way. It messes with our minds and our perspective.
Best wishes to you, and feel free to talk with us here anytime.

Thank you Kaz for taking the time to reply to me. I really appreciate your words and especially like the quote from Ghandi. You are right that I need to look for the good in the world and surround myself with like minded people to remind myself that there is plenty of love, compassion and beauty in the world also. i just feel so affected by bad things - I think sometimes I feel too much. Thank you again for caring to reply. Bless you.

My pleasure Bella, and bless you too. Hope it's OK to say this but reading your reply has given me a lovely lift when I needed it tonight. So thank you!
I feel things deeply too, and I definitely think to much haha. Bad things overwhelm me too sometimes. And sometimes they make me angry and I don't know what to do with the anger, never been good at handling it.
Sometimes it helps me to 'lose' myself in something simple keep the bad stuff out. For me that's usually gardening or cooking. Preparing soil, planting something, looking after it, seeing it flower or bear fruit, pruning it ... Cooking a meal for the people I love, seeing them enjoy it and knowing it's nourishing them, that means a lot to me. I really believe in simple pleasures.
Anyway, I'm rambling now. Come and talk anytime Bella, it's lovely to meet you.
