New member -- advice and help please

Hi All,

This is my first time here and I just wanted to seek some help and advice

I currently am experiencing some mental health issues and depression. I can't work and my family is about to fall apart. I've also had prior long term drug and alcohol abuse in and out of rehab which doesn't help.

Everything is quite stressful at the moment and money is becoming a problem for me and my family.

Prior to all this happening I was working and have full personal insurance cover (life, income, TPD & trauma) which has been with me for 5-6 years now.

Is there any way I can speak with the insurance company to seek some assistance ?

Can someone please give me some advice ?

Thanks

Hi Ryan07,

Firstly, welcome to the forums. Well done for reaching out for support.

I am sorry to read about the situation you are in currently. There is a lot happening in your life and I think reaching out for assistance professionally is the best course of action, I do not know if or how the insurance company can help but maybe just try calling them and speaking to them and explaining your situation. I would also recommend going to see your local GP and speaking to them about everything you are going through and feeling, they may refer you to a psychologist which I think will do you great.

I know you have done it tough in the past by what you said but everyday is a chance to get better. You are doing the right things reaching out for help.

Please remember you can always call the Beyond Blue helpline on 1300 22 4636 24/7 to discuss anything you are going through.

Please, post back as much as you like, we are always happy to talk.

My best for you,

Jay

hello Ryan, and I join Jay in welcoming you the forum.
Can I ask you a question or two before talking with your insurance company and actually are very important for them to continue with your insurance and then helping you.
Have you told them before you took out the policy that you have had and still suffering from depression or that you have been on drugs and drinking alcohol, because they will want to know how much alcohol you drink every day, however when you took it out at that time none of this maybe happening.
I'm only asking because life insurance for myself was cancelled by 2 companies when I wanted to update my history, at that time I was drinking alcohol and had a very high gamma level in my liver, simply because I was in depression, they then deemed me as high risk and the policy was cancelled.
What I would do is consider putting in a claim for using PTSD and Trauma, but be very candid about what you have been taking, unless your doctor has it all on record, then the insurance will find it.
I did get another 2 life insurances explaining my position, I wish I could tell you who they are, but the Moderators won't allow this, ut please let us know what happens. Geoff.

Thanks Geoff.

I was addicted to drugs c10 years ago. Since then I got my life back on track, and when I took out all my insurances there was no stress/depression or anything going on. They also didn't ask about my history (maybe because i was an employee).

But after years and life has been a roller coaster with different events my sickness has started to develop.

I haven't reached out to any professionals or doctors, but wasn't sure if I should speak with them before reaching out to insurance or vice versa.
