Hi,
I'm new here and I'm not sure I'm even doing this right. I'm not having a great night. I should be asleep as I have work in the morning, but my head is switched completely on and thinking about all the things that are wrong in my life. I know I should be grateful for what I do have but sometimes it's just hard. Night times are always awful and I dread bed time.

There is so much which your comment says to us, and there are questions we would like to ask, but what you say wehave to wait until you are ready to reply to us, and actually now is a good time if you are unable to sleep.
You have to remember that it doesn't matter what you have, or how well you have done or achieved because this illness doesn't care one bit, in other words it takes over our mind to the extent that it destroys what we once were proud of.
I hope that you're still up and get back to us. Geoff.

Hi homebird,
Welcome to the forum!
Like Geoff, I hope you'll feel comfortable telling us a bit about yourself and your experiences. I really struggled to get into bed and calm my mind, and sometimes still do. It used to be much worse when my anxiety was more severe. I recommend seeing your doctor about the emotional concerns you're facing. It's helpful to write a short list of things you need to discuss to take to the appointment.
If you are very overwhelmed with racing thoughts at night, try writing down what is bugging you, or listing the tasks you are anxious about. If you have a litany of negative emotions, typing freely on a word document what's going through your head can relieve some of the pent-up anxiety or negative thoughts. It's important not to worry about spelling, grammar or expression and to just type whatever comes into your head. Allowing yourself that freedom is important. When I did this, I would delete the word doc afterwards.
I hope you'll find this forum a friendly and helpful space!
Best wishes,
SM
