ok so medications can take sometimes longer to have the full effect on things and while they do help theres still alot of work on your behalf as well.
there is heaps of other support things for you. your gp can refer you to a psychiatrist. they specialise in these specific medications and are often better equppied to monitor and change dosages etc.
there are also psychologists. this will benefit you. your gp can refer you onto one of these in your local area as well.
until then you have the BB Forums but also the helplines. as your middle aged i can only think of 3 helplines
that being Beyond Blue
another is Lifeline for times of crisis and also Sane. im not sure of the number but u know that options avaliable as well.
if you look up these websites, they will come up into google and they have information about anxiety and depression as well

Hi JD
Startingnew is spot on in her posts above. I am also middle aged and then some as I am in my late 50's!
I understand where you are coming from where depression and the dark thoughts are concerned. I have had the same for over 30 years and they are bad news. You are not alone here.
Understandably you are very concerned after not recovering properly from surgery and now combined with thoughts about your job status as well.
Can I ask if you have even a small support network available to you at the moment? I have a couple of people that I can 'vent' to which is a huge help with my own depression.
There are many gentle people on the forums that can be here for you JD. The forums are also a judgemental free zone too.
I joined the forums in early 2016 after my depression hit rock bottom.
It would be great if you could stick around the forums JD
If you find yourself 'stuck' Beyond Blue have super kind (qualified) counselors available 24/7 on 1300 22 4636.
My kind thoughts for you JD
Paul
