Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd pop in for a chat.......

I'm having feelings of anxiety just about everyday at the moment. I know it is work related, but just thought it would be nice to talk to other people that have been through the same thing. Does anyone have any suggestions on dealing with feeling anxious about going to work?? I would love to hear other peoples stories or ideas.

Hi Freedom Girl

Welcome to the forums and good on you for posting!

I used to have work related anxiety which can make our life miserable. Its just not the anxiety but how it drains our mental energy levels thus have an effect on our performance too.

There are the various natural helpers like exercise and natural remedies that can help. They had little impact on my anxiety though. I ended up seeing my GP at the time and she was a great help with sorting it out.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by seeing your GP. They have much better training nowadays on anxiety and how to work through it

I hope you can let us know how you are going! There are many gentle people on the forums that can be here for you

my kind thoughts

HI Freedom Girl and welcome to the BB forums and community. Most users like yourself are a person (or carers) who has a mental illness, so just take that into account (always take professional advice over a forum user).

Like yourself I have anxiety and I found it worsened at work. I didn't know what to do about it. I think the first thing you need to do (if you haven't already) is talk to a GP about it. They can refer you to a therapist/counselor/psychologist if they think it is appropriate. For me seeing someone and chatting to them about my anxiety really helped. They also gave me strategies on how to deal with anxiety and they also educated me more on my condition. Knowing more about it is actually more helpful then you would think. For me my therapist suggested I do some deep breathing. If I was having a panic attack I would go to the bathroom and do some deep breathing exercises. 6 seconds in 8 seconds out. It helped slow down my breathing and heart rate which helped reduce the anxiety. Another thing I was told to try was meditation. I use an app on my phone called 'calm' but there are many other ones to try. I found it helps me relax and stops my racing mind. I find it especially helpful at night time, sometimes before bed if my brain won't shut off.

Hope some of these ideas are helpful. Although I still have anxiety I know find it manageable, and I hardly every have anxiety attacks at work. If you asked me 2 years ago if I would feel this good I probably wouldn't believe you. Anxiety maybe a part of me but it doesn't rule my life anymore

Thanks blondguy and MsPurple for your advice and for listening. I will see my GP as soon as I can get an appointment to discuss it with them. I didn't sleep much last night as my brain wouldn't "switch off" because I was anxious about going to work today.......So anxious that I took a sick day today. I'm not totally convinced I'm suited to the job I'm doing at the moment but then I also get anxious/nervous about finding another job (because that's not always easy and itcan take a while to find another job). Meanwhile I still need to keep earning money to pay mortgage/Bills etc.

I think I'll also talk to my husband and my boss about what is causing my anxiety - i don't think they know just how anxious I am about my work/job.

Hi Freedom Girl, Paul here

Thanks so much for posting back:-)

For you to post in the first place means that you are very proactive with your health and good on you!

Nothing wrong with taking a sick day if you have anxiety. The condition is partially chemically based which also makes it a partially physical based issue as well.

You are not alone here Freedom Girl

There are many people here that suffer from various levels of anxiety. This is your thread and you are more than welcome to post back and let us know how you are going

my kindest

Hi Everyone.............I know I haven't posted for quite a few months. I thought I was working through my anxiety/stress issues, but today I'm still feeling about the same. My job is stressing me out, there is way to much pressure which causes me to feel anxious even before I go to work. I've taken another sick day today because I just couldn't face it, my boss sounded really annoyed when I called her this morning.....so that's made me anxious as well. I wish I could find another job without the pressure of this one, I've been applying for so many jobs online and have had a few interviews, but nothing has turned out yet. I don't know what to do.... it's really starting to mess with me. Is anyone out there going through the same thing? Does anyone have any ideas on ways to cope or change jobs easily?

Hi freedom girl,

welcome..

I'm pretty new here also and still working on myself Which is a Continual process but as long as you work it,you will eventually find a way.. That's my belief.

Ok well I to have had that anxious feeling every morning before work which stopped me from having breakie and thinking straight, what I found worked for me honestly was meditating every morning as soon as I wake up,which I still to today,i love it.

I started about 8-9 months ago I had a yoga teacher introduce me to it and I thought I've never done anything like this before, but once she showed me how too and I understood it,i found it life changing,it helps set me up for the whole day and it's so easy to do..

All she told me to do at the start was to find something on YouTube off my phone like a 3-5 min relaxing mediation link and just try to keep your mind empty and focusing on your breathing the whole time.. Nothing else..

It took a while to get use too but now I meditate for 10 mins every morning and it's great.

Give it a shot..

I hope this helps in any way..goodluck.

Hi Robbie A,

Thank you for your ideas on meditating. I'll have a look on YouTube to see what I can find. Maybe I might even look into doing a yoga class. What type of Yoga do you do........there's so many different types now it's hard to know which one to choose. I'm also in the process of making an appointment with a counselor to discuss my issues. It's hard to know which counselor to choose as well.....How do you know they are going to be the right one for you?

Good to see you are working on yourself...as you say its a Continual process. That's what I aim to do, just keep working on myself and eventually like you I'll find a way. I know there is more to life than where I'm a t now, I've just got to find a way to get there.

Freedom girl your last paragraph shows me you have awareness and in getting recovery awareness in yourself is one of the most Important tools to have.. So be proud of that, its all one day one step at a time, thats how I take it daily..

8months ago I was totally someone else, I had just had enough and I was the type of person to never ask for help,i had to much ego.

But I surrendered and said I need to find the real me and finally find things that make me happy,so I reached out to people I know and ask for help finding a good councilor, too be honest I went through about 3or 4 until I found one that I felt Comfortable with and I could open up too.. And the relief I felt in the last few months has been such a gift for me,i highly recommend you looking into that, and continue opening up on these forums these are all the little 1%ers we need to get to our main goal..and you will get there all in due time just be positive and caring to yourself..

Oh and yeah I'm doing restorative yoga, its great lol.. Definatley give it ago..

I look forward to hearing how u go with it all 😀

Hi. I'm new too. When ever I needed work, I found the best way to get work was asking face to face, with an introduction first then.. I'd pick places I'd want to work. Also, should you try face to face, even if there's no job to get, you will feel a sense of connection when speaking face to face with the people. Try it & let me know how you go!
