Feeling overwhelmed and stressed

Maine09
Community Member

Hi all,

I am new here, 3 years ago I had a mental break down and I was diagnosed with bipolar.
with this coronavirus affecting my work place I am feeling very overwhelmed and stressed. People think I am over reacting and my head feels like it’s going to explode.

a number of things have changed and I have adapted. But recently my employer has asked me to do other things which I don’t normally do and it puts a great deal of pressure on me and I don’t think it’s fair. Basically extra work but nothing in return expect for exhaustion.
I instantly felt overwhelmed stressed and felt like I was being punished.

my hours have dropped which is understandable in the current circumstances but when the job keeper comes into affect my employer has told me I have to do extra hours to make up for receiving the $1500 a fortnight. So basically told me to do extra hours even though I’m not needed.

I don’t know what to do. I can sleep, I’m stressed and no one wants to hear about my whinging as their is a lot of people in the same situation

Maine09,

welcome to the forum and well done for starting your own thread.

It is a difficult time for many people and people are trying to work out what to do.

I have bipolar too, and I get stressed and overwhelmed at times and wonder is it just me or are others like this too.

It is understandable that you are worried about your work . It may feel like you are being punished but your boss is trying to juggle things so no one loses their job.

We want to hear how you feel and it is not whinging. This is a supportive place and you are not alone.

You are not alone here, there is a thread about covid-19 that you may wish to look at.

Welcome again and feel free to post on this thread as well as on another thread if you like.

Fight ot Flight..

Atm u chose not to fight [ would u consider reporting Employer for his illegal Act?]

or u might have to find ways to deal/cope with stresses ,

hope it gets better either way !

Hey Maine09,

Welcome welcome to a space where "whinging" is welcomed. However, like quirkywords has stated in her post - we want to listen what you have to say, it helps all of us, and its not considered whinging.

I'm glad you have choose to reach out about this topic, I think alot of people are feeling very similar to you and perhaps are not reaching out due to the same fears. I too catch myself talking about how hard I am finding all the changes at the moment. Personally I have had to transfer my master degree to completely online and like you have had to pick up extra hours at work due to job keeper. Know it's a relief to read posts like yours, and to know that my problems are valid, as are yours.

It's sp great to hear you have been adapt to the changes - change is really HARD. Give yoursellf some kindness and space to acknowledge this ❤️ Not to take away from your experience but I do think that everyone is having off days, weeks, months during this time and that this is more "normal" than not. Feeling stressed by day and not being able to sleep by night offers little time for relief. I imagine that having to manage bipolar during all of this has its own set of challenges. Are you still able to do some of the things you enjoy pre-covid?
