Hi everyone!
I hope you are all safe and well. 🙂
I've started therapy in the last couple months or so. This is the first time I've properly been to therapy. I have found it to be very overwhelming and confronting at times. I feel very uncomfortable sharing my anxiety issues. My therapist is great and I appreciate her views on situations. She is able to see my situations from a different perspective - she notices things I do and how I react. It is good to be able to identify/work on the negative things I am doing... However, it's very hard to hear and actually accept my anxiety.
Has anyone also had this type of experience? What were your experiences with therapy?
Thank you for reading. Take care 🙂

I'm glad you found a therapist you like and respect. Yes therapy is supposed to be hard sometimes! Moving forward and healing takes work and it means looking at those feelings that make us uncomfortable.
One of the things that helped the most with my anxiety is to sit with my anxiety and just let it happen without distracting myself from it and without judging it. It was so hard at first I could only do it for a few seconds. Even now, after a couple of years of actively practising this skill I don't find it comfortable and some days I can't do it at all.
That being said, if you are finding it too difficult or too confronting you can always ask to take a step back. You are in charge of this journey and the therapy will only work if you are on board.
Kind thoughts, Jess

Hi Jess
Thank you for your response. I appreciate knowing your experiences also. A big thing is just sitting with it, I struggle with this and try to brush it off or make excuses.
That is great advice. If it feels too much I will definitely say something. However, I think I need to be told straight up what I am doing that can be negative. I really want to move forward with my life.
Thanks again & have a lovely day! 🙂

Hello Jemma, we are programmed to deal with challenges on a daily basis, but when we aren't able to justify the reasons, then anxiety is created, so if we need to see a psych our therapy depends on how they are to discuss with us the underlying issues, but also prepare us until the next session.
I'm not qualified to say this.
We can't necessarily see anxiety in a person, not unless you know the person, but even then some of it maybe hidden, that's why we go and see a psych, for them to find out what we are hiding and as soon as they do, that's the key we were hoping for, we form a connection.
Best wishes.
Geoff.

hey everyone I would like to write some of my therapy experiences that have helped me over the years and maybe hopefully they can help you too. sometimes our brain tends to get jumbled and our thoughts can be very confusing and overwhelming so when that happens to me I tend to write it down on our piece of paper aiming to pick apart this thoughts that I'm thinking. my brain always tricks me into believing that I'm a failure, and worthless but I put these feelings on a piece of paper and then its there clear as day not jumbled all in my brain. then I write some of my achievements, times when I should be proud of myself, people that love my etc and I prove to myself that these thoughts are untrue and I'm not a failure and in not worthless. hope that helps
best regards josh.

Hi Geoff
Thank you for sharing. It has helped me see it in a different way. I think each therapist has a different way of doing things too. My current therapist is straight to the point and tells me straight up what is happening. There was another therapist I spoke with recently who was gentler and suggested different things. I can see the benefits in both.
Take care and stay safe 🙂

Hi Josh
Thanks for your response and for sharing.
I am glad to hear you find writing helpful and I'm sorry to hear you struggle with those issues. What a wonderful idea! Positivity is a big thing. I am trying to get into the habit of writing down one thing each day I am grateful for, just to bring me into the present.
All the best and take care 🙂
