Taking the first step

So I’ve taken the first step to be diagnosed with depression and anxiety as I’ve made an appointment with my gp a 40 minutes one but I can’t get in to see her until the 13th. Which I’ll be ok with that as I got all you excellent people for support 😊. So I should be diagnosed with depression as a few years ago she even mentioned I might be a little depressed at the time at one appointment which she can’t say she had not picked that up on back then. My anxiety should be diagnosed hopefully and yet even though I was diagnosed with sleep apnea (having a cpap machine as well) and coeliac disease (sleeping problems is a symptom of that) I’m still having problems sleeping. I’ve also have tried a few non prescription sleeping tablets to help me sleep at night or I was but I stopped trying that as they would all only work for a short amount of time. So despite having a cpap machine and having my coeliac diagnosis since the end of June last year when I can get sleep I have problems but it seesaws in between barely even sleeping to sleeping way to long. So with everything it’s leaving me more and more drained mentally and physically.

hi again... as Croix mentioned the side effects may differ from one person to the next and what works for one person may not work for the next.

you also mentioned in your reply to me ...

depression is a symptom of coeliac disease

while I do not have coeliac disease I know what you mean - I am also treated for haemochromatosis which also depression as a symptom. In me they found haemochromatosis when looking for things medically that "caused" my outlook on life.

Thanks for your reply croix yes I’ll remember to do so for my appointment on this Friday coming up and I forgot to answer your last question yes the cat in the picture is mine and what a very naughty crazy little trouble maker in disguise as of an angel she is to 😂 . Smallwolf it’s even greater to have someone who I can relate to a little bit more to here kind of in a way.

Hi mocha delight,

So great to see you get some support with your GP and that you have a plan towards your wellness and healing. Having an open discussion with your GP regularly is sometimes enough for some people...other times people feel that a therapist can offer more benefit.

You might start a side effect journal (similar to the one your brought to your GP). As smallwolf mentioned, side effects from medication differ from person to person. If you track them over time, you may be able to see a pattern or you might find that you experience some side effects and then they improve over time. This can be done in a journal or even a calendar. It can help when you next visit your GP and determine how you are tolerating the new medication.

Croix has pointed out a very important feature in your life, your gorgeous cat. I too have a cat who is naughty and an absolute trouble maker named Charlie. I wish he was a bit more like Croix' cat Sumo and lazy, but Charlie is full of energy and wickedness.

I look forward to hearing more of your journey towards healing mocha - you are taking great steps towards your recovery.

So I have an update so my appointment I had was changed to a phone appointment which I’ve had and my gp she wants me to go to the full tablet now to see how I go with that and she’ll call me around the same time this week coming up plus she’s happy with how I’m going so far.
