Psychologist break confidentiality?

TimTams

Hello I have a question regarding when a psychologist is allowed to break confidentiality.

I am over 18 but was abused at 15.

If I speak to a psychologist about the details, can she break confidentiality and tell the police?

Or is it only if someone is still a minor that they can do this?

I did some reading and I think as I was the victim and am now over 18 that I can choose to keep it confidential? Is this correct?

Thank you

Thank you Lynne. I researched online and realised because I was groomed 10 years ago there was no law in place back then about children under 16(?) I am glad I have decided to only tell one stranger because I really have thought about it and it would only cause my life and personal safety more concern. There would have been no point telling police anyway because all that would have done would be making me a target for two people. I already had one family wanting me to die. These people are away from me now and I realise risking them being near me again would really not be good for anyone. I have decided to protect myself and I am happy with how things have worked out. It is no longer my burden and for that I am very happy. Signing off and thanks for your input into this situation. I am happy with my final decision. I would rather let people continue to judge then feel the need to defend my own image then go through all that with those men again.
