Hi all,

When going back to see a psychologist again and you feel like you have a thousand issues that are contributing to how your feeling, how do you choose which issues need to be talked about more urgently?

Work, personal health battles, relationships, using my imagination/day dreaming often to escape reality, past sexual and emotional abuse, stress and coping strategies, gambling habit.

I feel like i dont know where to begin and that theres too few sessions to get through everything! I had my first session today and when asked where i want to start i just went with work but i feel like i could have started somewhere else more important like relationships or my personal health issues.

Hello MissJ, and welcome to the forums.

It's a very good question you've asked and quite a difficult one because after the session you walk away feeling as though you forgot to mention a,b, and c.

What is suggested is that you write down everything that's troubling you, then when your appointment comes along, hand this document over to your psychologist, they will then scan through your notes and choose an item that you've listed as being important and then start talking about it.

When the session ends they will read over the remaining items and wait until you have something you want to say, discuss this and then mention another item you've written down.

We would all like to be able to talk about everything, and yes we can do this, but to dissect each particular item takes time and understanding, but it's their job to find out why you are feeling this way.

You can definitely highlight the important topics that are causing you to feel this way.

Hope this helps you.

Geoff.
