Hyperhydrosis aka sweating without much exertion due to AD's

Does anyone experience Hyperhydrosis or sweating profusely due to anti depressants?

I've tried many AD's over the years and always have the same problem. Sweating excessively.

It's quite embarrassing at this time of the year when sweat is streaming down your face and it's winter!

My psych has discussed tricyclics with me as they apparently have less of an effect re Hyperhydrosis, but I'm not in a place where I can start mucking around with my current regime. I can't risk having a depressive episode from stopping what I'm on and starting something new. Maybe in a few months, but not right now.

Has anyone else had this issue? What was your solution, if any?

Just doing a short walk makes me break out in a heavy sweat and it's difficult to explain to people. It also means I don't/can't exercise as much as I would like and should.

I have tried Nosweat. It does work but makes my scalp and face extremely itchy as I also have sensitive skin. I can use it everywhere except my scalp and face with good effects though.

Thanks 🙂

Hello gnomadicmind, I have had this sometimes on different medications, and yes it is very embarrassing at work, particularly if you are in a long meeting. Other than having a handkerchief handy I didn't really find a better solution, I'm afraid. When you say it's difficult to explain to people, do people ask you questions about it? Or are you self-conscious? Sometimes I find that we notice things about our own bodies far more than other people do.

Hi there gnomadicmind

So your psych has mentioned about tricyclics, which are a different form of A-D?? I’m guessing yes, cause of how you’ve said that you’d need to go off the current ones and start up a new one.

I guess it’s a matter of weighing up which is most detrimental to you at this current time; the excessive sweating OR the option of moving from your current meds to new meds, which potentially should not give you the awful side effects of the excessive sweating.

Sorry to not having more of a helpful response for you, as I don’t have any experience in this either, but just wanted to respond to you in the best way I thought I could.

Kind regards

Neil

Hi gnomadicmind

I also have had this annoyance for many years, often dripping within minutes. I do not have a solution for this unfortunately.

I have a good supply of face washers, much better than hankies! Never leave home without one and have one handy at home as well. Sometimes wearing a singlet helps. Not leaving home without a bottle water is useful too.

The Indonesians believe that sweating releases toxins from the body and is the sign of a healthy body. Even if not true 😉 it is a good thought to have when it is particularly bad.

Great to not be alone with this one. I hope this helps.

Cheers, Alex

Many thanks everyone!

I seems something I'll have to live with. Better to happy and sweaty than miserable I guess!

I never thought of carrying a face washer. Simple solution but never occurred to me.

I usually go through lots of tissues. I bought a couple of special sports towels that are like a chamois and came with a plastic storage container. I'll be carrying that around with me now and just make sure I wash it and alternate it to keep it from being too gross.

more environmentally friendly than lots of tissues too.

Thanks again All!
