Hi Spanner

You shouldn't have to pay for a Psychiatrist with a MH care plan do you have one? You can get one through your GP.

I also gave up on seeing my GP for bipolar and other mental health issues.

Every time the prescription was for differnt kinds of tranquilisers which didn't help at all, it just made me tired all the time I think it added to my depression.

I have schizophrenia, bipolar, PTSD, anxiety and depression. The amount of medication I have tried I feel like it has fried my brain. I have a constant dull ache and numbness which I never had before medications.

Honestly I just wanted something to pick me up and make me feel better but every single it was just variations of differnt tranquilisers which I feel made me worse.

Hi SIK,

Thanks for sharing. I also feetl like that, & prefer to be medication free.

To spanner744,

I've been in hospital before ( mental health) & was able to see a doctor, psychiatrist & psychologist for free. I'm not highly recommending this option because they have power to keep you in for as long as they choose. Some people are kept in for weeks, others months.

I have bipolar and I have a fantastic psychiatrist that I have been seeing for 8 years or so. She is fabulous and when I've been unable to work, she has bulk billed me.

I have had the conversation with her that if I am unable to work long term and gave up my health insurance what would be my options and she advised that I could see a psychiatrist through the public health system.

Can you get a referral to a pubic psychiatrist? There would be no costs.
