Antidepressant effects changing in first few weeks

I started taking medication 3 weeks ago to deal with severe OCD, anxiety and depression.

My first week was strange as I adjusted to the medication - I was feeling better but really I was feeling different. Thinking differently, acting differently, it was all an adjustment. I also had some minor side effects - nausea, dry throat, insomnia. The second week I felt amazing - my head was clear, I was thinking positively, and while I felt so different, I felt so good.

I'm at the end of my third week, and things have changed again. My intrusive thoughts have returned significantly, and I'm once again much more anxious and stuck in my own head.

I'm sharing this to understand if anyone else has had similar experiences. Is it a negative thing that the meds worked really well at first and have now tapered off this week?

I want to be clear and say I do plan to keep taking the meds, as I know they can ultimately 6 weeks to really work long term. But this initial rollercoaster has had me concerned and perhaps I want to be reassured that it's all part of the process.

Hello Dear softdrinksandwich,

A very warm and caring welcome to our forums...

Medication can and usually does effect people differently with side effects and the progression they give us when we first start taking them....

It does take about 6 weeks for them to work to their full capacity...

I think that it would be great idea to reach out to your prescribing Dr. or professional to make an appointment and discuss with them how the meds have been working for you in the beginning but now they seem to be causing you my issues....Maybe a review of your meds are needed....I am not a health professional or anything like that...Ithey are just my thoughts...

My kindest thoughts Dear softdrinksandwich...

Please keep us updated on how your feeling..

Grandy..

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Grandy.

I will be checking in with my GP on Wednesday to discuss these ongoing changes with the medication effects. I'll also be chatting to my psychologist tomorrow about dealing with the ups and downs.

It's been confusing as instead of it slowly working across 6 weeks, there was an immediate high impact. I think I got a little too comfortable, and this week going back down into a struggle has been confronting and difficult to handle.
