Hi I am new here. For a while now I have had feelings of being sad and depressed, crying and drinking too much. Something is wrong with me. I feel I need to talk to someone. I usually talk to my best friend. She has her own issues at the moment and I don't want to burden my husband or family or worry them. Was thinking of asking my doctor for a referral for a psychologist. She does healthcare plans there. I feel very nervous to ask in case she thinks I am being dramatic, silly or not sad enough.
How should I ask my doctor please? What do I say? I find this more nerve racking than telling her my medical issues.
Thanks very much.

Hi I ended up ringing. They had my referral and I should get a call from her in the next day or so. Hopefully sooner, cause I'm anxious to know I'm booked.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Thanks. There's no website unfortunately. I just have to wait.
I'm hoping it all goes well.

I am wondering exactly the same thing so thanks for asking. I have an appointment with my GP in a couple of weeks as she isn't easy to get an appointment with. I'm not sure what to say and scared I'll chicken out and not show up. Reading this makes me more confident though - doctors are there for your health after all.
Good luck for your next appointment, hopefully you are on a path to feeling better 😊

You can do it. I nearly didn't ask yesterday, but gathered the courage and did. Was a relief to have asked.
Thanks so much. Good luck to you too.

Is it common to have to be waiting to be contacted for a psychologist appointment?
Referral was faxed off yesterday morning. I rung up late yesterday afternoon and they have received it. I was told I would get a phone call. A day later, I haven't heard anything.
Is it normal to wait? Feeling anxious and wanting my appointment booked. Thanks.
