Words of comfort, encouragement and wisdom

To all the beautiful people 🌞

Words placed in a particular order can have a profound effect on us.

Words can bring us a moment of comfort, give us a different perspective, or change the course of our thinking and outlook entirely.

I would like this to be a space where we share quotes that have meaning to us or that have the potential to bring some comfort or encouragement to somebody, even if just for the moment in which they are reading it.

I will start.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow." - Mary Anne Radmacher

Go gently with yourselves lovely people.

Sometimes I have to let go of the picture of what I thought life would be like, and learn to find joy in the life I am actually living.

Tomorrow won’t be the best day of your life, but it also won’t be your worst.

Empowerment: On the important of (diverse) representation. Help shape the future or “someone else” will do it for you.

Not only do we need women and minorities in those fields for their intelligence. We need you all there for your perspective, and the wisdom you bring to what is shaping what this world is going to look like. You share your story. You don’t hide it. Those stories are what make you uniquely valuable to any endeavour. You put your truth into everything you do. You put it out there boldly. You own it.

Hi Pepper,

this is a “pet conversation” of mine. It is becoming very close to reverse discrimination, and what a stupid term that is. Reverse discrimination is just discrimination against a non minority group.

I have no idea what the solution is. I doubt there is a solution. But I also know that I didn’t cause the situation.

I have a great amount of hatred of the “society” that put us in this position. It has become simply impossible to treat everyone “fairly”. What happened in the past was atrocious, but should I, as an “average white Anglo Saxon male of absolutely no minority or repression” have less of, a chance of selection, or value, than a member of a repressed minority group?

Not trying to be argumentative, but isn’t that the exact error her effort is trying to correct?

Hi David (and a wave to all),

Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙂

I’m happy to have a respectful discussion about this, but I don’t necessarily want to get into it here as I think this thread is mostly about quotes that resonate...

So I might address it briefly on your thread instead...would you be okay with that? Thank you kindly...

Of course...

On taking it day by day and celebrating each step:

Never discourage anyone who continually makes progress, no matter how slow.

- Plato

This is perfect Peppermint, I certainly needed to read it 🙂

My Bravery v Courage “wisdom”

Bravery is facing a foe, even though you might fail
Courage is facing that same foe, knowing that you will fail

Bravery is fighting and losing once
Courage is fighting and losing, many times

Using a weapon to attack is neither brave nor courageous
Brave is protecting others with a weapon
Courage is protecting others without a weapon

To stand against enemies takes bravery
To stand against friends takes courage
To stand up to a bully takes bravery
To stand up for the bullied takes courage
To stand up for those who want it takes bravery
To stand up for those who need it takes courage

Bravery is saying what you think
Courage is acting on those words

Bravery is getting out of bed in the morning
Courage is making it through another day

Bravery is seeking help
Courage is seeking help, again

Bravery is finding out you are scared, and continuing on your path
Courage is following the same path, the next day

Bravery fights against your fear
Courage overcomes your fear

Bravery is writing
Courage is publishing

Bravery is stubbornness
Courage is determination

Bravery is overcoming the unknown
Courage is overcoming the known

Bravery is falling down in a fight
Courage is getting back up

Sometimes you need to be brave to let go
Sometimes you need the courage to hang on

Bravery for the small things
Courage for the large ones

It takes courage to follow the brave
It takes courage to lead the brave

Standing against an oppressor is brave
Standing alone takes courage

Believing in someone takes bravery
Believing in yourself takes courage

Brave to start
Courage to finish

Outward strength is bravery
Inward strength is courage

Bravery is protecting yourself
Courage is protecting others

Bravery is once
Courage is forever

To admit the truth takes bravery
To confess a lie takes courage

Bravery when you can continue
Courage when you can’t

A man who is never afraid may know bravery
But that same man will never know courage

Bravery is making a choice
Courage is allowing someone to choose for you

It might take bravery to break a heart
But it takes courage to mend a broken one

Very good David 👍
