Hi Katy,

Sorry about how you are feeling. So I've selected a couple of my poems (I have around 300) to cheer you up.

BLACK WIDOW

The Male black widow spider
Tried all his life
He tried to tickle the hairy legs
Of his larger black widow wife

Years went by but without a smile
She too stern to let him know
That all the while she laughed inside
But to him she dare not show

He started telling jokes
A story line so grouse
But try all day he wouldn’t succeed
In a laugh from his angry spouse

Finally he had a win
Something at last to gloat
His wife began to laugh aloud
As his leg slid down her throat

Poor little male black widow
Was sure to get into strife
All because he didn’t understand
The nature of his hairy wife…

BEACON OF HOPE

His old legs carried him
All the way to the peak
Three hundred steps to work
And all but one of them would squeak

He’d endeavor to maintain
That the lighthouse would always shine
And that that was his prime objective
Till the end of his own lifetime

All clear and he’d descend
To play chess with his distant mate
Eight thousand miles away
On an island of wind and slate

He thought his saddest day
Was when his mate had lost life’s race?
But then he found it even sadder
When he didn’t know his face

The bitter pill had come
When gadgets took his place
The locals understood
This keeper with the angry face

So for the last time
He climbed the coiling stairs
To polish the mirror that saved the sailors
And gently wipe his tears

They gave him a cleaning job
In an office by the shore
And until his heart gave up the ghost
His grudge he’d always bore

Then one day a boy came by
And asked “are you lighthouse Jim”

He stood erect and answered yes
And the boy photographed him

He didn’t see the connection
That he’d made some history
The last human lighthouse keeper
To light the light that lit the sea….

WALLY WOMBAT

Off to school he went
To learn a thing for the best
This one year old Wally Wombat
That was slower than the rest

H had to learn to fossick
To eat roots and sleep by day
To browse in the early hours
And look cuddly the wombat way

But one lesson he couldn’t master
Was to time the event just right
To walk into the path of a motorcar
In the middle of the night

Most of his friends succeeded
As their paws pointed to the sky
But try as he did all his life
Wally failed to get squashed and die

Now an elder Wombat
If you see him by the road at night
He’s the one with all his wits
Because he couldn’t time it right…

Here's one I often repeat to myself, I think it's from Julian of Norwich but it's calming...

"All is well

All shall be well

And all manner of thing shall be well."

No matter what happens this is trying to say eventually things will become OK again... You just have to get through it until things turn out better again...and they will.

Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to reply with your quotes, poetry and furry hugs. You're all so generous of spirit. It makes my heart happy x

'Of all people on the planet, you talk to yourself more than anyone. Make sure you are saying the right things.'

Wishing everyone comfort and peace this festive season.
