Hey to anyone reading this.
Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.
OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.
So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......
I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Hello Sherie
Since I am pretty sure of the area in which you live. I "googled" the showground in that area. From the pictures that I saw, well it looks a fair size. I am guessing since it is a showground, it would have a lot of different....well other animal smells therefore heaps for little Holly to sniff out. Anyway it looks like a great place that you chose to walk.
Many hugs

Hello Elizabeth
I hope you get a bit of a rest today. Are you driving on out to the lake this week at all? I sounded so calming and restful the way you did describe it last time. It made me want to just float on my back and look up at the clouds. It is good that you managed a small walk, and that you smelt the scent of the roses. I am guessing the roses were at your place then. Take care.
Much love to you

Hi Shelley. Yes thats true, it is quite a large area. And definitely lots of animal smells around. We even had a circus there a couple of weeks ago, so a number of 'different' animal smells that she wouldnt have smelled before. It is a nice walk, they keep the grounds nicely mowed so its all pretty level as well. A few fences to climb through, but they're all railed, so thats pretty easy too.
No time for walks today though unfortunately. And no inclination either ...... just too tired today.

Hugs to all...
Well today I ventured out to the beach again. I am so so glad I did. I decided to actually walk on the sand. So I headed on down to the waters edge, where the sand is firmer. I was walking with a little bit of caution, because there were some blue bottles washed up on the shore. But not to worry, I just stepped on over them. I even spotted this tiny brown crab, walking sideways, as they do. I have read it is good to walk on sand, as it gives your feet a bit of a massage. That is if you are walking barefoot, which I was. I was pretty tired, and I really had to push myself to walk back up the steps to the road, when it was time to leave.. ...But I am so so thankful I walked. Received some good old fresh air......
OK that's it
With much love

Hi Shelley, I'm glad you got to the beach. Walking on sand is much harder so you get a real workout going a short distance but it does massage the feet. The salt water is also supposed to be good for you so just smelling the salt in the air is good. Also watching where you are walking to avoid stepping on things takes your mind off things giving it a rest.
The roses were overhanging someone's fence so they were easy to smell as you walked past. My parent's used to reminisce about the roses dad used to grow when they were going out. He would pick them and give to mum as a bunch or a corsage and he grew them in our garden so roses are linked with good memories of my dad.
I will try to get to the lake tomorrow. I have been very tired for the last week or so even though I've been to bed at a reasonable time. I am going to sleep in tomorrow and try to recover. I saw my psychologist today but it felt negative because all I could focus on was the things going wrong even though I had been doing OK before becoming so tired.

Hey Sherie
I know you are feeling tired. To be truthful I don't know how your body copes at all. If I had a bath..... do you have a bath? Well I would fill it up with fresh water, add some epsom salts. And just soak in it until you feel relaxed and calm.
Walking and exploring, or watching your Holly explore a showground sounds like a bit of an adventure to me. I can imagine one of those people with one those metal detector things, going around searching for lost treasure.
With much love and hugs,..... for I do think you are in need of them at the moment.

Hi Shelley,
Yep, I am very tired. Didnt work today, but I did visit my old lady friend in the nursing home. It was her 86th birthday today, so I had to go. Otherwise I probably would have rung her and deferred. But it was an important day for her. They had birthday cake and everything for her, so it was special.
I do occasionally run a cool bath when the weather is really hot. It is mainly to cool the body core temperature down a bit, as I really feel the heat. But a soak in the bath is nice and relaxing, I should do it more.
I like your description of comparing Holly sniffing around at all the scents on offer, to someone using a metal detector. How apt ! ( - : That describes her perfectly. You have inspired me to make a big effort tomorrow to take her for another walk. Even if I feel as if I cant at the time, I know I will perk up once I'm out there. So thankyou for the inspiration.
And yes, the hugs help too .................. ( - :

Hey Elizabeth
It seems like a lot of us are just plain tired. Myself included. I think I will go and get a very large drink of water, perhaps I am dehydrated or something. I will be back in a tick.....I am back, now sipping chilled water through a blue straw. Well I guess making sure we drink enough pure fresh water is all part of being well.
Your dad sounds so romantic, that is a beautiful memory to have of your dad.
I can relate to getting into that negative way of thinking too. It does seem a challenge to get out of, doesn't it. But it is possible.
Are you feeling better rested today? I hope so. Take care now Elizabeth and good on you for smelling the roses......
Much love to you
Shelley xx
PS. I have now drank about 500mls of cool water, yeah yeah

Hi Skye...
You mentioned you climb up and down ladders. Well that would keep you are bit flexible wouldn't it? That has to be a good thing. It would be a bit like walking up and down steps I guess. Going shopping... gosh I think we may very well walk more than we realise when we shop. It all sounds good to me, you are still getting in physical movement/exercise in some way. ..... So good on you! Ah you have a doggie as well, lots of members on BB seem to, don't they. Will you give Lara a pat from me, well that is if she likes strangers patting her?
Many hugs to you Skye, and thankyou for all the hugs and love you have given to me. Because sometimes I do just simply need a hug.
Much love to you
Shelley xx
