Dear All~
What this place is for:
This thread is a tool, a resource, and also I guess a dash of entertainment.
I’ve found that when life is grim that sometimes thoughts of past happiness can create a chink of light in the grey overwhelming press of down. They can help occupy the mind with lighter reflections.
With that in view I invite people to set down a brief passage describing some happy event they look back to with fondness and peace.
They - and others too - can then return to it when they feel the need to glean a little warmth.
It is not a place for gloomy or dire tales, those can go elsewhere.
What to do:
Just set out, as simply as you like, your recollection of some past experience that means something good to you, something you enjoyed, something from safe times.
It can be, like my story below, anything – from an account of visiting grandparents to simply cooking and eating a melted-cheese sandwich in a favorite kitchen – you get to choose.
How to do it:
Write. Write enough so someone else can feel the mood, know what happened, find the goodness. (stop at 2,500 characters please!)
Grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation are not compulsory, just write as you can – the only important thing is the content - not literary merit. Short or long - it does not matter.
I hope you enjoy, contribute and find a little distraction here when you need it.

Dear Shell~
I'm always amazed at how powerful the writing is here. I can see the corn, the ear, the kernels and even the grub! You bring back the sensation, smell and taste for all of us, not just you.
To start to grow some now is a great idea. I'm sure it will taste just as good as your memory, not like the shop-bought stuff

I was reminded of a happy memory when I was reading about Emmy's recent trip to Hawaii.
This had always been my dream destination and when I finally got there it was almost an out of body experience.
I can remember getting up very early one morning, before anyone was around walking along the street in Waikiki- the sun was just up, a faint breeze with the intoxicating aroma of jasmine filled the air.
The water was so blue / aqua its beauty brought a lump to my throat, gently framed by tall palm trees I thought I had walked into a postcard. I walked for ages just saying over and over in my head, " I'm actually here . I'm in Hawaii."
That euphoric feeling lasted the whole time I was there - I get incredibly moved by the awesome beauty in nature. It is extremely humbling

Dear Stressless~
Yes sometimes a whole great vista can be almost weirdly overpowering, the whole experience so different for ordinary hm-drum life.
Actually your post, and that of Sherie above, reminds me of the 'safe place' I have. somewhere to imagine in detail and savor to the exclusion of intrusive and highly unpleasant thoughts.
I've a storm-ravaged area on the side of a mountain above the sea in Wales. There are the remains of stone-age round huts, short sheep-nibbled grass and nature doing its worst. Grey and white sea visible though the squalls, me wrapped up warmly.
Not a restful scene, but one where nature's force buffets and tugs and my concentration is caught.

Stressless....enjoyed reading of your experience of Hawaii. Isn't Hawaii regarded as one of the High Energy/Magnetic Field locations on the earth? There's some special significance anyway.
I am still pretty much the same, in a quandary about this fantastic thread Croix. I agree it's a positive uplifting idea and glad it is being of benefit and interest to so many. I know you will understand when I say I am still having a problem relating my own "happy memories". Be reassured I do have some...I must have..somewhere. So much of my life's experiences have been terrific, joyful and tremendous fun....so I wonder why i can't readily pull them out and write them down here?? 'Tis a puzzlement!
It could be that those memories are just that...memories. And instead of uplifting me and making me feel terrific, they actually make me wistful and melancholy that they are "gone" and I can't relive them again. Does that make sense? cheers, and good wishes to all.......xx

Moon, firstly I agree it can be very difficult to come up with happy memories at times. But they are there.
Why not think about some of your past lawn bowls achievements, some of your victories, and how it feels to stand up there and bask in the glory of adoration and applause from the spectators. All those people who wish they could 'play' as well as you do.
That shouldnt make you feel wistful or melancholy. Its not as though you cant again achieve that feeling, or to relive those happy memories. Because you may soon have another opportunity to relive all that past glory in another upcoming tournament that you mentioned recently.
Can you try thinking of something along those lines?
Cheers also to you lovely Moon. Hope the full moon of last night was a happy occasion for you.
Sherie xx

Hi moon girl,
Not so long ago I was lamenting the fact I had no happy memories to re kindle and post here, until someone pointed out a memory didn't have to be from a long time ago. I t could be as recent as last month, last week or yesterday .
I stopped trying to think of one and then one day there it was- a clear feel good recent event I wanted to share.
Relax the memories are there
Cheers and thanks for the full moons, my grandson adores going out to look at the moon before bed

Dear Moon~
I get what you mean about there often being overtones of melancholy or loss on even the happiest memories. However Nat suggested to me to pick an object at random, from rice-pudding to rollerskate and see what it brought up. Then quickly put pen to paper before any other thoughts start. Could even be a well delivered line from a show you have watched.
I'm sure those memories will come in time.

Hey there Croix.....there is obviously something wrong with me. (after all, why would I be on this Forum if there weren't...hehehe) Of course I can recall the happy memories. I have an excellent memory, particularly for the most recent wonderful time I had that Sherie refers to....it's crystal clear.
But here's where I don't "fit in" with the rest of you. Writing them down here doesn't seem to do anything positive for me, there doesn't seem any point. That's the bit I don't get.....what is its purpose???????
(and as the dolphin said to the walrus...."I never go anywhere without a porpoise!")
