I was just searching for an old thread here about how pets help us with mental illness/health and it seems to be gone, so I thought I'd start another one.

As some of you know already, I have a black cat named Buddy and he's my life, basically. I have no friends or contact with family currently, so he's it. Knowing he's around is a great comfort and during bad periods he's generally the only thing that gets me out of bed.

So, go ahead and share anything about your pets and make us all smile.

Hi Lici, how is Jasper going? A couple of years ago I just happened to notice my 15 year old cat was missing a tooth. The vet said it was probably just old age and had fallen out when he had eaten something tough. My cat didn’t show any signs of discomfort or change in eating habits. Hopefully it is the same sort of thing with Jasper.

Hi Fred!

Jasper seems to be ok, he's eating normally and is currently laying in front of the heater. I haven't had a chance to find a vet yet as I just don't have time with uni at the moment.

I looked at his gums again (much to his displeasure) and apart from his "freckles" (black patches that most ginger cats get I found out) his gums are a healthy looking pink and he doesn't seem to have lost any other teeth. So it seems like it may be the same as your experience with your cat.

Thanks for asking and sharing your experience, it's nice to know that other cats have lost teeth as they've gotten older! You've made me a little less anxious.

Kind regards,

Lici

I'm glad Jasper seems to be OK and you're feeling better 🙂

I think I need to turn the TV up because Buddy's snoring. He stops and goes quiet and then he'll slowly start up again.

Hi Music Freak,

Thanks 😊

I hear you on the snoring! Jasper snores all the time. He's not too loud though so it's cute rather than annoying. They're such funny little creatures aren't they?

Buddy is usually right next to me/leaning on me, when I say he snores loud. When he was younger we'd share pillows, although he doesn't do that much anymore, just like sitting on my lap.

Yes, they're funny, weird, silly creatures, but they're worth all of it and more 🙂

Like most inside pets, my dog Dexter follows me around the house like a smell and when I am busy he sometimes gets caught in a room when I shut the door. I taught him how to knock on the door so I could "find him" and let him out. He is so well behaved I often let him on the front verandah to sit in the sun, and he will knock on the front door when he is finished to let me know he wants to come inside.

Now, he has learnt when it is sunny and he cant get out - he will knock on the front door from the inside so I will come and open it for him! Cute, yes. Smart, yes. For the person who has to get up every time he wants the door open - not funny!

Buddy “locks” himself in the bathroom too, just leans up on the door so it closes and latches. And since he hates closed doors, he meows up a storm until I hear the racket he's making.

My buddy, Buddy, is a very vocal cat, like siamese are renowned for.

I meant to add before I accidently hit post that Buddy isn't siamese, but has their head shape a little and is loud like they are.

He was fast asleep earlier, that was until I sat near him with food...then boing, he was up and awake like magic.

Oh my spoilt little boy...

My dog Scout is like Blissful Pilgrim's dog Dexter. Scout follows me everywhere and is so inquisitive and curious that she'll often end up out of sight and I can forget her, too, and close the door. I've never been able to train her to knock. And she doesn't bark. She scratches on the inside of the closed door! So, she has in effect trained me to jiggle the door handle before I ever close a door to make sure she is right behind me!!

I'm loving this thread. It is so great reading about others wonderful pets 🙂
