Hi Everybody

This is only the basic dictionary definition...

"Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment without judgement"

  • Please be as blunt you wish....If you dont have an idea about mindfulness it would be great if you could let us know
  • If mindfulness hasnt worked/or is too broad a concept for you it would great if you can let us know your thoughts too
  • If mindfulness has helped you, please help others to help themselves by posting how you have embraced this mindset

It goes without saying that the forums are a judgement free zone and I really hope that everyone can jump in and have their say

Your input is highly valued no matter how you respond to this topic. There are no experts here...New Posters are Most Welcome!!

Quirky, I guess a lot of songs are written and they are very meaningful whereas some other words to a song just don't make sense, essentially they are there to compliment the tune.

I love the Foo Fighters song "Walk" as one of the lines is, "Learning to walk again". When i got out of hospital i was listening to that song and i changed the words to, "Learning to live again" as that is basically what i had to do.

Fair to say that, that song means a hell of a lot to me - thanks very much Fooeys!!

Quirky, it is awesome but i find listening to the Foo Fighters is so calming for me.

Whilst there, look up Enigma as well. A very different sound that i use whilst stretching. Calming, very calming.

Just thought of this to post on another thread.

The last couple of nights I have sat outside and watched the International Space Station fly by overhead. It looks like a star that is moving really quick but you get enough time to look at it, take it in and pardon the pun, "space out" thinking there are people in that. Might be a good way to practice some mindfulness for you all.

If you want to try this, go to NASA's website and there is a place where you can input your email address. NASA then send you an email telling you what date, time and direction the ISS is going to be overhead.

Mark,

you are full of such fascinating information. I will look at the site and se what I can see.

Never thought of the meaning of spaced out.

Not for too long Quirky.

I have a friend or three with unfortunate, (in this case fortunate), skill sets.

Another question to this wonderful group of wise people.

Is mindfulness best practised alone in a quiet environment or can it be done in a busy place.

Do you need to do mindfulness everyday to get the maximum benefit?

I apologise if these questions have been already asked.

Enjoy your day.

Quirky

Hi Quirky,

I find benefit and need for both.

When surrounded by chaos and trying to get something done, or even just avoid getting caught up in the drama that seems to surround me ... Mindfulness meditation and techniques work really well.

When I'm alone and in a calm environment, and my darn mind won't shut the heck up and let me relax, same thing. Usually I play a podcast on treating the mind like a new puppy that needs training to live in the world. That just seems to work for me. Not sure what that says about me but hey!!

All the best on your journey.

Quirky, I agree with QldMouse.

You need to be able to execute mindfulness techniques in all situations as there is no telling when anxiety will come on. Sure we have the times where we can reasonably suspect that we will get anxious, i.e. in crowds etc but then there are the times where we get triggered and we do not know why.

I don't recommend heading off to a major sporting event and putting yourself in the middle of a crowd to test yourself out though!!

Build up to it, practice in smaller places then work up to larger events but definitely work on practicing mindfulness in a variety of different locations.
