I have noticed especially in social media but also in real life, that people find it hard to disagree with respect.

We have seen politicians being personal and rude to each other just because they have different opinions.

I don't think it is possible for us all to agree with each other but it is necessary for us to discuss our differences without attacking the personality of the other person.

How do you disagree with people showing politeness and respect.?

I encourage you to share your ideas, even if you find it hard to disagree respectfully.

I feel for our mental health it is important for us to be aware of how our comments may affect others.

Hello everyone,

I have heard a few friends that the thing people really worry about a Christmas is arguing with that one cousin you only see once a year. They say they try to be respectful but often lose the plot when the other person gets rude and angry.

So how do you cope with argumentative people at Christmas.

Quirky

Hi all

have no written for a while and lot has happened to me.

I find when I am distressed stressed and tired I can tend to be disrespectful because I feel I am not being listened to.

How do others feel about how they act when stressed?

Hey Quirky

I understand that you have suffered tragic losses this year...not to mention the emotional pain and anguish you have gone through during these awful wildfires..I am so very sorry for what you have been though Quirky.. I had no idea of what you have been through until recently 😞

Anyhow...to answer your question... I was distressed and having difficulty coping, I was short on patience and probably disrespectful too when I was in the family court only trying to have my fortnightly access to my daughter when she was 2. The ongoing 4 years in court did make me stressed and I am sure I was disrespectful to others as a result..unfortunately

I dont have the mental energy to deal with the clowns on social media Quirky...you didnt mention which one yet I am guessing it may be Facebook...(please correct me otherwise!) Name calling is woeful as you mentioned above...Just because you disagree with someone it doesnt mean that other 'people' or 'friends' have a free pass to call you names on a global social platform...Its just not acceptable...even with privacy controls enabled

I really hope you can take the time to heal and have some peace

my respect and kindest wishes always

Paul

Thanks for your honesty.

I wonder when people are not respecting me that maybe they have been treated badly themselves.

when I hear my voice get louder and impatient , I try to remember the person I am getting upset with maybe has no control or maybe is having a bad day.

At other times I bite my tongue or I say things and then feel guilty.

I have been wondering about how people find it hard to disagree with respect. At the moment so many people have different ideas on what is happening and why.

Sometimes people are stressed and get impatient especially in queues and arguments can start.

What do you do to be respectful when disagreeing with another?

Hi Quirky and everyone 😊

Depending on the person I usually if I disagree try to speak my piece calmly and non aggressively but of course emphasising 😆 depending on how and who's speaking.

At times I've found the gentle approach can get a negative angry response which is when I get my back up too.

So much easier talking without agro.

Hope you're doing as well as you can dear Quirky. Feel for you very much lovey. Best wishes to you.

Thanks demon

I also find if you remain calm and kind that can make people more nagry. Then I walk away.

I am ok taking one day at a time.

How are you DB. You do a great job on the forums helping others and by your kindness and compassion.

Quirky and everyone 👋

Hey darl 😊 yip it's those types that I have trouble walking away from. Kudos being able to walk away. They also have a huge attitude and for some reason think everyone should agree with them pfftt.

I'm coping better thank you Quirks and have a lovely man too which is fabulous. Still hard work but much easier now to the mental torture for SO many yrs and so often.

It's you darlz that I worry about. So glad hearing you say a day at a time you dear lady.

I won't go on too much but please know you're always welcome to vent at mine if you feel too anytime

You're such a kind caring person with so much going on helping everyone.

Never forget we're here for you too lovey.

Demons

thanks for your kind words very much appreciated,

i find disagreeing with kindness to intolerant people a real challenge.

I have learnt due to COVID and my doctor told me this (you cannot control certain things in life). I suffer from anxiety and I was reporting every little breach I saw especially in certain shops. I found little had changed in these shops and the lack of social distancing is awful. People are just silly to listen and follow the rules. I will now look after myself , my pets and my close friends
