Hi, I’m new here.
I am currently starting my journey to beating the bottle, I’m learning the triggers for my drinking and it’s tough. I have not spoken openly to anyone other than my dr and husband about this issue.
Im looking to hear from anyone who is further down the line and help me to know it will get easier. I feel trapped because I’m so ashamed to speak to my most trusted people about this habit I’ve been hiding to so many years.

Hello Shining_Star, and a warm welcome to the forums.
Paul has given you a link where many people, including myself, have been involved in, however in regard to your comment and I certainly know how difficult it can be when you want to stop drinking.
I was a cupboard drinker when I was suffering from depression, I had to hide it from everyone until now all I do is drink socially, that's not easy for people to do, but to understand this problem is your first step to overcoming it.
There is no judgement here and alcohol is a topic that is often talked about so please don't feel as though you are embarrassed.
If you go and see your doctor then they may want to prescribe a medication which stops the urge to drink, but it will only work if that's your intention and I've tried it and it does work, all you have to do is change your daily routine, but I'd really like to speak with you, whether it's today but certainly tomorrow.
I'm 64 and have been through it all so please do not be afraid, I'm gentle.
Geoff.

Hi Shining_Star, it's great to hear back from you and certainly pleased about what your doctor has given you, so can I ask you a question, and only answer if you want to, are you happy and I'm very interested to see how you are filling in your days.
Best wishes.
Geoff.
