Colouring book

I just had a go of one of those adult colouring books this evening. It was a really nice break from all the electronic mayhem and my stack of dense text laden books. Laid out on the floor like I did when I was a kid, and started colouring in a rabbit! I am actually looking forward to finishing the rabbit.

Anyone else tried these? How do other people unwind indoors in the evening that doesn't involve TV/Computer/Phone?

Hi Jimny,

I have seen these colouring books become more and more prominent with adults and have heard they help ease the mind and reduce stress. Anything that does that I am all for, I like reading personally, not on the phone, actual books, prefer Marvel or DC comic books actually, I enjoy the art work and the stories can be quite engaging as well.

My best for you,

Jay

Hi Jimny,

I've tried adult colouring books before too- I have a small collection. I'm with you on how it can be very cathartic. Sometimes if I'm having a bad time, I'll whip out a colouring book and turn on some music. I hope your rabbit picture turns out well!

I have to admit that I have a slight obsession with the internet and my phone (guilty as charged on both counts). I do enjoy music in my down time and as odd as it sounds, I also enjoy staring off into space and just thinking.

Sometimes if I'm feeling particularly upset or anxious, I'll write the same sentence repeatedly (I find it calming and it helps me refocus). I also enjoy sketching and I like to give myself manicures and other pampering treatments too.

hi Jimny, I think it's a great way to take your away from anything that you're struggling with, and when you finish coloring in the rabbit, that's an achievement worth remembering.
I wonder whether we have another Rembrandt in the making. Geoff.

Hi Jimny,

Sounds like you're really enjoying it. I love colouring in too!

I must admit I do spend quite a bit of time on my laptop after dinner. But when I want to relax, I have a steaming hot shower, and go to bed with a book (and my cat!)

Jimny, I have recently taken up sketching as a means of unwinding and for distraction when I need it. I also do some poetry.

Much like Mia, I also like to read. I dont have a cat though, I have a little dog, who is the best mate you could possibly have.

I could certainly use more beautiful music in my life, great thoughts here, I think I will try and make more time for music. Maybe colour with some Bach!

@Pepper, your idea about rewriting a sentence is something I would like to try. Also, I used to write poetry, and this is something I would love to get back into. Future goal in the works.

I also sometimes enjoy doing a body scan meditation (usually guided) with the lights low, followed by some light stretches. This has helped me get sleep in the past.

Hi Jimny,

Lovely to hear from you again 🙂

Colouring with some Bach does sound like an excellent idea. I'm awarding 50 Gryffindor points to you for being the first person to pick up on the reference. I was in a silly mood and thought it would be amusing to use a common mispronounciation of Bach as a pun. Lol.

I'm glad you're getting ideas from the posts, and I hope your mediation and stretches continue to aid your peaceful slumber.
