Advice for Seeking Professional Help (Trigger Warning- Sexual Abuse, Self-Harm, and Suicidal Feelings)

Hey guys,

My life at the moment is really complicated, so I'll keep it brief:

  • My parents are extremely strict- they don't let me do anything, when my boyfriend (who was also my best friend) broke up with me, they didn't know
  • I was touched inappropriately last year by someone who I had known for years (not a family member, a peer)
  • I suffered from depression(?) after the breakup for about 5 or so months (I don't have a diagnosis because my parents didn't know)
  • I have stopped now, but I had been self-harming for around 2-3 of those months
  • A couple of weeks ago, the depression and anxiety was so bad that I wanted to kill myself
  • I am always anxious- I have a constant feeling of dread in my stomach
  • I have panic attacks frequently that sometimes are for no reason- these involves sweating, shaking, hyperventilating and crying
  • I really hate germs and am kind of obsessed with washing my hair and sanitising my hands
  • A lot of my 'friends' judge me and some of them bitch behind my back
  • I find that my anxiety is not at the front of my mind when I dance or when I am on this forum helping others
  • My ex and I are friends again, but some weeks he ghosts me and flirts with random girls, and some weeks he acts like my boyfriend again
  • I have only recently 'come out' to my parents about being anxious all the time
  • I am going to see the school counsellor on Monday
  • My parents are going to take me to a GP and get a referral to see a psychologist

I would like some advice on how to talk to a counsellor/psychologist and some general info about confidentiality and stuff like that.

Thanks guys xx

Hi Chloe,

Not going to take sides here (ie sitting squarely on the fence) but I can understand your mum's reaction. Both of my kids are competitive swimmers - when you go to swim meets, you typically pay for each race they are entering. So can be annoying when kids says

I don't want to do it.

On the flip side, there are real and valid reasons for pulling out. It's a juggling act.

And it sounds like your mum is very supportive. That always helps.

Yes Em I do dance most days a week for minimum 3 hours a day.

smallwolf yes I agree, and my mum is quite supportive.

So... With headspace. I have to go to my gp to get a mental health plan, will be seeing a psychologist spat headspace. Once the gp's referral is faxed to headspace, they will call me again to make an appointment.

hope everyone had a good day 🙂

Hey! Today's been a good day lol, it's a high day for me 😝 Haven't had one in about a month so I'm enjoying it while it lasts!! Makes sense because was continuously depressed for about 3-4 consecutive days last week.

Saw some good friends yesterday, was greeted with hugs and 'I've missed yous'. Was nice to be fussed over for a change. I was so tired I fell asleep on G's couch, my best friend had to wake me up lol. Almost had a panic attack though, no one but my best friend noticed, he came over and asked if I was okay. I said yes but he said 'no you're not', then hugged me for ages lol.

Had a lazy day. Watched Dance Academy and Beauty and the Beast on Netfilx (never to old for Disney!!)

i only have 2 days until school goes back:( but won't be seeing loads of my friends till Thursday, they are doing the duke of Edinburgh award so will be away in a hike 😞 I'm not doing it, as much as I would like to, but would just add extra stress which isn't a good idea.

how was your day?

x Chloe

HI Chloe

its really great to hear your doing well today! it sounds like you had a good day too and what a loveley friend you have too. sounds like a panic attack was stopped in its tracks.

i love disney! they are mostly my fave movies- which are your favourites?

Yes am very lucky to have him. Has hurt me in the past but we've sorted it all out.

Hmm... My favourite classics would be

  1. Peter Pan
  2. The Princess and the Frog
  3. The Lion King

And my favourite new Disney movies would be

  1. Frozen (of course)
  2. Beauty and the Beast
  3. Zootopia 🐰🐺

I love horses... But from a distance. Mum got bitten by one 2 summers ago... Haven't been on one since lol. But they are beautiful creatures 🐴.

Yeah I'm holding out for Thursday... The days will go quickly.

OH! Forgot to add, Disney is making a live action version of The Little Mermaid (one of my all time faves, probably sitting at about 5 on my list of classics), but with a dark twist! A little like the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale (but not that dark)!

They are making a Frozen 2, coming out in 2019 (uhhh the wait is toooo long) and apparently a High School Musical 4 (rumours though, but without the original Wildcats, I guess Zac Efron has moved onto bigger things like The Greatest Showman now). HSM4 is just a rumour, but exciting all the same!

HI Chloe

i havent seen the princess and the frog for ages!!! i use to like frozen however my youngest sister was frozen crazy and ruined it lol. frozen everywhere!!! i love the new beauty and the beast and zootopia, so does siblings so thats what we watch on rainy and boring days. they are also a a big fan of high school musical so hopefully they make part 4 however part 1 and 2 are the best i think.

im glad you and your friend were able to work out your differences, thats how friendships grow and become stronger. i use to ride and went to royals like at the easter show but after a bad fall that damaged some of my spine i limit it alot now to just occassionally.

do you have plans for tomorrow?

Hello Chloe,

Im so happy for you that you had such a good, you deserve it sweetheart, your friends sound like they are really good friends and are good for you as well.

Disney movies and Disney Classics you can't beat them,,I'm a child at heart, fantasy is about all I watch on tv, mostly DVDs. Frozen 2 okay thanks for that, mbut I'll have to wait for the DVD to come out, no cinemas unless I want to do a 160 kilometre round trip....looks like I'll have a longer wait then you..

I hope tomorrow will be just as much fun as today was for you..

Kind thoughts and warm caring hugs🤗,

Grandy
