Hey 🙂

I ask out of interest, learning & gathering info for my purposes which are to get on top of Bipolar (BP)
Flog the demons & when I get there thinking to public speak (Paid hopefully) & would help many.
A goal I HAVE to reach.
Our depression beyond eventually goes when we've recovered fortunately.

Questions:
Sufferers of depression:
Does it lift at times during depression?

Do you find you get depressed when tired?
(I've spoken to a few over the yrs with/out M.Illness or ? undiagnosed, but most have said no. I always have but may have been the BP.)

A Psychiatrist said the depression causes tiredness which I get why but...
I'm not so sure, I think other way round too but might be wrong, open to that

Cheers

hello Demonblaster, many great replies back to you regarding your comment.
Does it lift when you are depressed, well to answer this is yes it maybe, because sometimes when you are with some friends that haved left you, where you could be having luch/dinner then there could be times when you will be able to laugh, so at that time depression is pushed into the background, but as soon as they leave then back you go into depression.
There will be days when you feel worse than yesterday, or like wise better than yesterday, it's too unpredictable, and even once you believe you have overcome depression it's still there and you could easily have a relapse, because there is no guessing or assuming when it comes down to MI. Geoff.

  • Hey Geoff 🙂 Thanks for input (soz trying to work these dots and no:s lol, not successfully clearly 😄

Yes in BP I've found same, around people (I get very stimulated, extrovert) same, the distraction pulls me out & then ditto plunge when alone again.

Do you notice which I meant to ask chooky above that when you have worse days is it when you're more tired do you think.
  1. What's becoming more evident is a BIG contributor is lack of sleep
Solution: ..We need to find ways to sleep better.

So far two things help. Many say same.
Excercise which also releases endorphines which ups our moods
A psych told me once that far better than anything over the counter for depression is reasonably strenuous excercise in the sun, he couldn't remember exactly what & not talking about endorphines, the sun has a reaction with the brain which helps no end.
Also we're getting light directly on us, which we need

Meditation. ( I worked my own out but the general idea is for distraction) Focusing on a peaceful place, the mind wants to go other places, but keep zoning it back to there. With practice it can be achieved.

Meds yeah but some we become use to and have placebo affect which still works, but I wanna eventually do it without meds but that's gunna be a monster to slay so in the later basket, too many demons to work on for now. Getting there though, happies about that.

I've realised recently although it's hell hard, it's in the down times we have to work so much harder to find strength, consistent with tiredness, we're weaker then.

Wondered if just to sink with it, let it run it's course (I'm talking bout the deep BP downs, but doesn't sound like the right answer aye, or continue trying to fight it, it's so hard to battle cause the mind blocks up, that dark heavy blanket encompasses.
In the exhuastion usually or extreme tiredness I am allowing myself to give into that part for recovery.

Something I've learnt recently is exactly what you're saying about being around people. A couple of times in my recent extreme low I FORCED myself to go to table tennis, (I organise it so have an obligation too) also lately went in middle of extreme to a cancer cuppa family put on and a couple of friends came too, both completely pulled me up for that period of time anyway as you were saying.
At very least we get a temporary reprieve & recent good mems to pull on.

Hope your days one of the brighter ones Geoff 🙂

Catch ya later

hello Demonblaster, absolutely the more depressed I was I was always tired, however I have always been someone who has never had a sleep problem, I know that must hurt those that aren't able to sleep, but before I got depression I could still go to sleep anywhere.
They say that exercise is great for depression, that's what my psychologist kept telling me over the period of 20 years plus, but I told her that I couldn't even get stimulated to walk around the block, and please don't get me wrong here, because exercise has helped so many people which is really terrific.
I could never achieve meditation, but again it's helped others, so you have to find your own niche, maybe it's a bit of both these, or more concentrated on only one, that you won't know until you try them.
You maybe able to stop taking any medication, but it's not best to decide on your own, you need your doctors approval, because so many times we have heard that people stop taking them 'because they are feeling on top of the world', but the meds were doing this to them, and eventually after awhile they began to crash once again and back to square one.
If I can just say whether or not you don't like the thought of having daily medication, would depend only on how your life is, whether circumstances have improved and any of those triggers you once had are no longer there to annoy you, then it maybe possible, but for me I've been taking them for over 20 years and will continue. Geoff.

Geoff yeah for sure what you're saying about meds, needs to be done with GP's guiding which I do & for many not an option as I mentioned 🙂

Hear you about motivation, Just starting to learn to push through that & YES very hard.
It's more effective to not put pressure on ourselves as in if you're just too blaggghhhh tired don't go, but even in those times I did push through and it lifted me a bit.
Meds help without doubt but working from within is another key to unlocking pain

Agree about people finding there own niche, trouble with depression is it pushes everything down, buries it, I'm just starting to realise we HAVE to push through it, its how we get motivated. Forcing ourselves to do what can help.

thanks for reply 🙂
Good chatting

Hi DB

This really is a great thread and thanks for posting back to everybody too 🙂

Sleep for me has been the common denominator for recovery and like you mentioned good quality REM sleep is always a huge boost to our ability to heal more effectively. I have studied and learned that....

  • Mobile phones (the artificial light) overstimulate our brain activity before bed and switched off
  • Laptops/ipads....same as cell phones....only stimulate brain activity. Mine are off an hour before bed
  • Caffeine is another trigger for rapid thinking and even more adrenal activity
  • Our environment....As calm and conflict free as we can make it...Not always easy to do but vital to well being
  • Avoiding overly negative or toxic people will also help boost our quality of life too 🙂

My symptoms have decreased in severity with AD's and super regular therapy. The huge lows are history now

Great thread DB!

I hope your day is good to you

Paul

Thanks Paul 🙂 very much, really appreciate your good words and post is FANTASTIC so much info
Btw how the hell do ya get those bullets working, ya wanna see my efforts lol sadly I do now consider myself intelligent LOL butttt ...... 🙂

Truth to all above you said esp only bum around with people you feel comfortable with, that means they're probably not judging or criticising us. God knows we don't need MORE attacks on self esteem, took me an age but I worked out why I had ALL TIME LOW in teens, was (gunna have a shot at bullets here) here goes....
YESSIM sort of lol.. Bipolar's a master as is depression, cool just realised now it's the depression not BP specifically, at stripping us of self worth

Is that how it is for people with Depression? low self esteem. Anything that pulls us down is depressing so I guess yes otherwise wouldn't be as depressed. BP takes it VERY deep.
Another bullet coming....holdddd on
cursors stuck behind it...Anyway the other reason was/is some people. 95% like/care/love me & knowing this is helping me no end with self esteem, we really do need to like/love ourselves, It's us (our being) we spend the longest time with.
In vulnerable young yrs 3 different pfffttt friends put me down a lot and YES sensitive but that doesn't mean people aren't being mutts though.

I read a lot of D&M wisdom quotes which have helped no end with self esteem, sometimes ya hear someone say something or read whatever but it catches ya just at the right time
Toxic people, VALID

Coffee heard recently to have last one about 6pm I think to not be disturbed with sleep

6 yr 12 girls in England (not sure) School project did a study about effects of Wi fi
They had 12 dishes and put ? Cress seeds in them
2 rooms 6 containers in each with same conditions, light, temp, water
One of the rooms had Wi fi on, the other didn't

? 2/3 wks later

The ones in the room with Wi fi on almost all died and some had started mutating.

The ones in other room, flourished, healthy, upright boomed.

These girls have been taken seriously by prominent scientists & others in parts of the world.

They've made an important discovery, Kudos to the teacher and magic seeing young minds nutting out valuable info potentially for our survival.

Paul AD's ?

Thanks again Paul
Have a good one 🙂
