Hi All,
My name is Tom. 30 years old and divorced for over year. I was diagnosed with depression months ago, when my mind and body started to shutdown. My mind couldnt string one though together and my anxiety actually would be at the point of making my body and voice physically shake.
Since being on my medication it had improved, however over the last couple of days I have really struggled again. At times I cant think straight and when i do it gets negative.
Its such a battle, and a battle I think i have fought for years before asking for help. Im tired of my thoughts, my anxiety. I just wish for peace and quiet..
Thank you for just letting me speak what is in my mind. Iwould not wish this on anyone...
Take care and I hope you keep fighting your battle.
Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your post! I'm really sorry to hear about your struggle with depression, and your marriage dissolution. I hope the medication is still working for you, with minimal side effects. If you do decide to go off your medication, only do so after seeking the advice of your doctor. Medications such as antidepressants must be weaned off gradually.
Having both anxiety and depression is really challenging. In my teen years, I had mild to moderate depression and severe anxiety. Now, I just have mild anxiety which is controlled with medication, with no side effects :) I understand wanting internal peace and quiet. Racing thoughts are exhausting to deal with. When you’re in bed and overcome with your thoughts, try imagining individual thoughts as clouds, floating away. This way you can recognize your thoughts as just that; thoughts. This won’t work well for everyone, but is worth a try.
I hope speaking on this forum has in some way been a comfort to you. Keep in touch with your doctor about how you are feeling.
Best wishes,
SM

Hey Tom! Welcome to the forums.
Sorry to hear you're having a rough time buddy; I kind of know where you're at having both depression and anxiety myself and being in a long-term relationship (engaged, have lived together 6 years) which is on it's last legs; it's been quite a struggle lately.
The best advice I can give you is to tell your self that the thoughts you have won't affect what you do next. Have the thoughts, they'll happen and sometimes at the most random times, try to rationalise them as silly but acknowledge that you're having them and why you're having then and tell yourself that you're going to have a good time anyway or it's not going to keep you up at night worrying, instead tell yourself you'll still sleep well. Sometimes just forcing yourself to have a more positive outlook will help.
Looking forward to hearing back from you on how you're going and anything else you're feeling or having trouble with.
