Hey everyone,
I’ve been diagnosed with Depression and Anxiety and been going to therapy for 2 years now. I feel as if I’m getting worse unfortunately and I’m leaning towards anti depressants although I’m a little uneasy with the thought of depending on medication for happiness. I’ve got many friends but all who know me as the strong one in the group and the one who always smiles. They don’t know what’s going on in my life and nobody really asks or cares to know. The only person in my life who cares about my illnesses is my boyfriend of 5 years but I’m starting to see it effect him so I’ve withdrawn from going to him for help. I’m feeling very alone and worthless. Will it ever get better, will the depression ever go away. I can live with anxiety but not depression.

Welcome to our valued online community. We are so glad that you have reached out here tonight. We're so sorry to hear that things have been getting worse and that you are feeling that you are alone in this. Please know that you have come to the right place. Many of our community members have had similar thoughts and experiences and will be able to share their own stories with you.
It's great to hear that you have been in therapy. Medication may be worth discussing with your therapist if you are considering it; your doctor should be able to answer any questions that you have about the options available to you.
It sounds like you are a beloved person with many friends. The idea of opening up to a friend can be quite confronting, especially when we identify as a strong person who doesn't need support. However, it's important to recognise that there is a lot of strength in sharing our experiences and asking for help when we need it. If you feel that it would be beneficial to you, you might like to take a look at our page “Talk about it" for advice on having these conversations for the first time with a friend.
If you feel that it might be more helpful to open up to others who are going through similar experiences, you may consider joining a support group in your area. You can find information on support groups available on the Black Dog Institute site here - https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/resources-support/support-groups/
We hear that you are looking for stories from our community - hopefully a few of our members will be by to welcome you over the next few days. In the meantime, you might be interested in browsing other threads that have been recently active to read the stories of others.

Hello Simrenee
Welcome and thankyou for being a part of the forum family too!
I understand depression/anxiety...I used to have similar symptoms for a long time and yes recovery is possible
- Your friends are spot on Simrenee!....you are the strong one
- No one I know depends on meds for happiness...The meds only provide us with a solid platform on which we can heal more effectively using ongoing counselling....( only if our symptoms begin to impact on our our ability to function on a daily basis)
You are not alone as many people are experiencing the similar feelings you do
you are far from worthless Simrenee.....It took me weeks to post on these forums when I joined in 2016 as I didnt have the courage you do
Yes it will become easier
The forums are a rock solid safe and non judgmental place to post....Any questions are always welcome and answered respectfully
my kind thoughts
Paul
