Hey everyone,
I've been living with bipolar for 4 years now but managing my condition when it flares up is not getting much easier. I'm on medication which has been life-changing and extremely helpful and in between episodes I am able to live a relatively normal life.
At the moment I'm experiencing low mood, depression and lack of motivation and interest and just feel horrible. I wish I was better prepared for this because it's so hard to deal with. I was doing so well before this flared up again and each time it has flared up it has destroyed my life and I've had to pick up the pieces and start all over again.
Today I've been feeling awful, like a dark black cloud is just hanging over the top of me constantly but I've made the effort to push myself to do things that usually bring me joy and happiness, even though I don't feel like it at all.
I feel like I just need some support and advice on how to manage how I'm feeling and listen to other people's experiences. I hope this does pass soon.

Hi, welcome
I'm 67yo, bp2 with other things. Diagnosed in 2009 and pretty much was a train wreck beforehand as you understand.
I had 2 siblings, older brother suicided at 26yo, sister and I made attempt as has my daughter.
My attempt in 1996 was just prior to marriage separation, 2 young kids. Then 27 years later, 3 months ago, was a big low and walked into my medical centre asking for help. I cried uncontrollably for 90 minutes.
So management of BP includes a safety plan. Please get such help if that low.
Like depression it's best to not have expectations from yourself to escape from a mood, let it mature by itself and upon feeling better implement motivation methods.
Google- beyondblue the timing of motivation
If you work full time look for part time work, 2 even 3 short jobs give you variety, full time we haven't got the endurance and long hours with the same people can be taxing.
Medication helps but has its limits. Solid sleep is crucial and a sleep study needed if you snore or stop breathing while asleep.
Rely on a trustworthy carer to inform you if your mood has changed for the worse as we aren't good judges of our own behaviour.
Avoid community responsibilities where others press our buttons with lack of tact and us with sensitivity.
Distract yourself from your demons with a passion, creativity and sport etc.
We have others here with bipolar. I hope you enjoy the site.
