Lost and confused with a hint of doubt

Hi, I’m new

so I’m 19 and still getting used to the whole being an adult thing. I keep second guessing myself on what I want to do and what I should which everyone says is normal, but I don’t want to waste my life away not knowing what to do. Everyone says I’m so capable and can do anything I put my mind to but sometimes I feel like that’s just something they say because they think they have to. I want to have a plan, even if I can’t stick to it, it would be nice have a goal in mind. But I have no idea what I even want out of life. If anyone has any life advice I’d appreciate it.
Love Belladonna 🖤

Hi Belladonna

I'm so glad that you've come here, using the forums as a resource as you set off on your quest in life. As a 53yo gal, it's only in the last handful of years that I've come to realise all highly significant quests hold plenty of questions. Whether it's the quest to know our self in amazing ways, the quest to feel a connection to life itself, the quest to change certain belief systems that no longer serve us or something else, there can be sooooo many questions.

May sound a little simplistic but I kinda see life as a landscape. There will be paths that are easy to follow, some that may appear dark while we can feel a little lost at times, paths that lead to a cliff's edge (where we face the verge of whole new stage of life that lies before us, with a need to take a leap of faith we can soar into), paths where we'll find fellow travelers who lead us to new exciting places and so on. From a bird's eye view, it appears as a map.

One of the things I've learned along the way is...in reaching into my trusty 'back pack' there were certain skills that were missing. They were never given to me before I set off independently. One was the skill of knowing how my inner compass works (being able to get a feel the best way forward or the path I'm on). This is a biggy. What feels like a depressing path compared with what feels like a truly inspiring one can relate to feeling things heading south and finding our own true north. The skill set involved in goal setting/navigating towards something was another that was missing. The skill set behind self discipline was another. Plenty more. The good thing is we can gain them as we go. I've learned along the way that good guides in life are key. Whether they give us advice for the best direction or they shed light (offering enlightenment) for us through the darker parts, good guides can make all the difference no matter our age/stage of the journey.

Instead of trying to see your entire life map, pick just one destination for a start and see where it leads you. Is there one thing of interest that comes to mind? Could involve something you've wondered about which could lead to you joining a particular group of people (whether it be for social or educational reasons). Could involve a basic job and not a career yet (where you can simply start banking some cash for later). A particular career path may be something you come across a little further down the track. Could involve a path where you focus on a whole variety of ways to generate loads of physical, mental and soulful energy. Is there anything that comes to mind in the way of where you wish to begin heading?

Thank you so much for the advice, you’re right. I’m just going to focus on one goal and go from there. Thanks

Life is a bit like a path. Now and then you come to forks in the path (choices). Other times you trudge along for a bit until you come to another fork. So you can't see all the way to the end, if there is such a thing, until you start walking along it. Sometimes it is worth reassessing if you're on the right path, say every few months. It all seems a bit daunting at such a young age, but you can change your mind. Nothing is fixed. Just try and keep your options open.
