Have been doing well, but the last few years have gotten worse and worse...

I don't know why, but it seems to have gotten worse and worse for me: I studied and finished my bachelor degree in digital media in 2014, but can't seem to get a job with it (I did 2 internships in graphic design, and both said my knowledge was lacking). The course was very artsy, I have no clue how to design a brochure or anything useful .

So, I got a job in retail, and I really enjoyed it! i worked there for 2 years, but things got worse in the 2nd year, as most ppl left because things were unorganized, machines kept breaking down or they got better offers.

Well, even my bf told me to quit, and I did and feel really good about it.

However, I've been taking a month break to find out what I want to do, I don't have money troubles as I saved enough. I just have no clue what I want to do with my life: everything seems crap; I don't want to work in the food industry anymore because I hated that, as well as sales (I just couldn't lie to a customer). I don't mind working as a cashier again, but they all want teenagers and young adults, I'm too old (almost 30).

I wanted to study something else, but I just can't get out of my funk and be passionate about anything anymore...I tried working on a graphic novel but nobody is interested so I don't have any hopes for it at all, and honestly I've been too depressed to even work on it properly again...

I keep looking at seek or gumtree to maybe find a job that would spark my interest, but nothing seems to make hopeful that it might be worth it all. I just am starting to loose it and not find anything worth it anymore, not even playing video games ...I just sleep or stay up while my boyfriend is at home so he doesn't think anything is wrong.

I just want to know how can I get passion for life and being more positive about any job again? Everything I do I seem to just be crap at: i get the feeling compared to other people I learn extremely slow and even if I try really hard, I always mess up or things still turn out for the worst.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your story with us.

Some people are lucky and know from the when they are very young what they want to do in life. Many people like me have many different jobs trying to find their passion. I was in my late 40s when I started my own business a retail shop.

30 is still young to start a new venture. I think it is good you understand what you want to and what you don't want to do.

You are being very hard on yourself, you finished a degree so you are smart and determined.

I think having a month of will give you time to work out what you want.

Have you thought of doing volunteer work in an area you are interested in.?

Can you talk to people in different fields that you maybe interested in?

Have you ever had career guidance-? it is not only for high school students.

It can be frustrating finding the work you want.

All people learn in different ways and at various speeds.

I think you are talented if you can make a graphic novel and that would give you an interest as well as something to show a prospective employer how creative you are.

Hi BCWallaroo

Story of my life, no joke. I've finished two degrees, and am currently working in retail in a job that, though exciting and interesting, is filled with people that hate it there, as well as bosses who enjoy mocking and insulting the staff "beneath them". I can see that I'll be looking to move elsewhere next year at some point.

I'm on the cusp of 30 as well, and have tried jobs linked to my degrees without much success. One, due to limited opportunities, the other due to travel and staff safety concerns. Quirky is absolutely right though; we're both still young, and all it takes is a single moment when we spot what it is we want to do. We feel lost because we haven't found it at this moment, but all we can do is be patient and keep trying. Don't wanna sound cliche here, but it's pretty much the notion that our success will be the result of getting up more times than we're knocked down.

Good luck, and know that there's someone out there who feels exactly as you do 😃

Andy

what an encouraging post. I like your statement that our success will be the result of getting up more times than we're knocked down.

BCWallaroo, and everyone

I know many people who have started their dream job in their 30s or in their 40s . That is the the great thing about these forums, you find out you are not alone.

Thank you all for the replies! I really appreciate them and they made me feel a little better about my situation 🙂

I'm still confused, I feel like I've wasted a lot of my time now (it's already been a month whre I just played video games).

I'm also going through some personal problems, a family member is suing my sibling and I about my parent's will and it's difficult to cope with as well...

I feel a bit better than I'm not the only one going through it, I guess I need to keep reminding myself that I am not the only person at my age still trying to figure out what to do with my life.

I have considered volunteering, perhaps at vet clinics (as I may be interested in studying a vet nursing course), but my confidence has been so low lately that I am really scared to now to be denied even from that (since I won't start the course till maybe next year, but I want to gain that position already before I start). But I think I'll have to wait on that till next year after I'm sure to start that course.
